Description

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a first-wave foundation trust, being one of just ten Trusts in the country awarded Foundation Trust status in 2004.  They are also one of the few Trusts to have acheived Three Stars each year since the introduction of the Government's "star ratings" system and have featured consistently in the list of the Top 40 Hospitals.  They were awarded a Government Charter Mark on three consective occasions and were a 'pilot site' for the 18-week pathway and in December 2007, one of only three Trusts in the country to achieve the targets identified.

In this year's new ratings by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the Trust was classified as Excellent for quality of services and Good for use of resources.   They maintained a Good patient environment rating for each hospital site in 2010.  The results of the National Inpatient Survey announced in May 2010, showed that they were among the top 20% of Trusts in England, in eleven areas relating to; hospital admission, cleanliness, hand hygiene and fewer delays in leaving hospital.

They serve a population of over 410,000 people in the areas covered by Bassetlaw District Council and Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, as well as from parts of North Derbyshire, Barnsley, Rotherham, and north-west Lincolnshire.   Employing on average 5237 staff.

In 2009/10, there were over 77,045 emergency attendances, including both A&E patients and medical emergencies, over 97,425 new outpatients were referred, and over 50,529 inpatients were treated and discharged.

The Trust provides a range of acute medical services at three hospitals (Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop, Doncaster Royal Infirmary, and Montagu Hospital, in Mexbrough) and in a number of community locations.  In addition, outpatient services are provided at Retford Hospital and rehabilitation services for older people at Tickhill Road Hospital, Doncaster.  They have become an established and credible hub for a wide range of specialist services alongside the major teaching and tertiary care centre in Sheffield.   They are an Associate Teaching Hospital of the University of Sheffield Medical School, and an Associate College of Sheffield Hallam University.

Membership of this foundation trust is open to residents of Bassetlaw and Doncaster, and patients from outside these areas, over the age of 16.   For membership enquiries contact the Trust Board Secretary's office on 01302 381355 or e-mail foundation.office@dbh.nhs.uk
