Job overview

We are seeking an experienced, motivated and dynamic clinical pharmacist with excellent communication skills to lead our Emergency Medicine Team.

Main duties of the job

The post will provide the following services to the Emergency Medicine Directorate (not exhaustive):

Lead and develop a team of senior pharmacists, junior pharmacists, medicines management technicians, and medicines management assistants providing clinical pharmacy services to our Acute Medical Unit, Emergency Department and Urgent Treatment Centre.

To be an independent prescriber and utilise this in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Provide a clinical pharmacy service to the Acute Medical Unit and  the Emergency Department. 

To line manage senior pharmacists, primarily working in the Emergency Medicine Specialty.

Lead on medicines governance and service development within our Emergency Medicine Directorate. 

The post holder will be joining and working in a large and progressive pharmacy department, which delivers near patient ward pharmacy services, has automated dispensing, electronic medicines management and has implemented electronic prescribing across the majority of the organisation.  The pharmacy department has close links with the  Schools of Pharmacy at Wolverhampton University, University of Birmingham and Aston University with members of staff holding joint appointments, and is actively involved in teaching undergraduate students and learning beyond registration.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy
  • Substantial experience working as a senior pharmacist in a hospital setting
  • Post Graduate Clinical Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience of working within Emergency Medicine
  • Independent prescribing qualification
  • Experience in managing, training and assessing staff
  • Pharmacist registration with the GPhC
Desirable criteria
  • Formal Management Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work autonomously and on own initiative and also to co-operate within a team to achieve desired outcomes
  • Ability to manage own time effectively and prioritise appropriately
  • Ability to adapt behaviour to changing circumstances and work under pressure
  • Experience of implementing or delivering the objectives of cost/service improvement programmes
  • Experience of undertaking audits or participating in clinical research
  • Ability to demonstate specialist knowledge of pharmacy in the context emergency medicine
