This is an opportunity for a band 5 staff nurse to work in a brand-new modern hospital, The Louisa Martindale Building. We are excited to have  moved into level B8 with our Acute Frailty Area. The new hospital with its spacious bays, side rooms, amazing views of the sea and Downs, allows the best environment to care for our elderly patients.

Caring for short stay elderly patients who are acutely ill, with differing underlying chronic conditions, enables staff to have many learning opportunities. Some patients are diagnosed as ‘frail’ and may have cognitive impairment. 

Applicants will be working our established Multi-Disciplinary teams of Consultant,junior doctors, nurses , physiotherapist, occupational therapist and dedicated flow coordinator who are constantly striving to improve the  care experience for all patients and their relatives.

Caring for unwell elderly and frail patients with differing underlying chronic conditions , enable staff to have many learning opportunities. Some patient  may have cognitive impairment. This allows nurses to gain knowledge and understanding of polypharmacy.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  1. Provides effective, safe, evidence based patient care 1n accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct.
  2. Adheres to NMC code of conduct.
  3. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates individualised evidence based patient care.
  4. Works in accordance with ward philosophy and nursing model.
  5. Effectively processes admissions & transfers and plans discharges in accordance with UHSussex policy and standards.
  6. Actively participates in promotion of education for patients, their relatives and colleagues with consideration to resources available.
  7. Ensures provision of all drugs as prescribed in accordance with UHSussex policy, including parenteral administration.
  8. Ensures safe practice with regard to moving and handling, SHARPS adheres to trust infection prevention policies including Personal protective equipment (PPE).
  9. Provides accurate documentation of patient care in accordance with UHSussex and national policies.

We welcome applications from those who currently hold a UK NMC registration. If you currently hold an overseas nursing qualification and require sponsorship we are not currently direct hiring Internationally Qualified Nurses.

  1. Prioritises care and delegates workload and ward activities appropriately to HCA's and other  staff; may be required to take charge of the ward on an ad hoc basis.
  2. Effectively and professionally deals with emergency situations.
  3. Adheres to local and National policies and guidelines.
  4. Contributes and actively participates in correct reporting and handling of incidents and accidents.
  5. Has awareness of ward and team dynamics.
  6. Identifies and reports malfunctioning equipment and takes necessary action.
  7. Ensures adequate ward stock levels are maintained.
  8. Maintains awareness of ward resource issues.
  9. Processes patient property and valuables in accordance with UHSussex policy.
