An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional Registrant to join a team of dedicated professionals in the busy expanding Glenfield Outpatients Department. 

At the Glenfield Hospital outpatients we host and support a variety of specialties including Respiratory, Cardiology, Vascular, Oncology, Breast Care, Orthopaedics and NCSEM at Loughborough University.

Outpatients is a friendly, progressive and encouraging working environment, within very pleasant surroundings. The focus of all our effort is to continually enhance patient care delivery whilst supporting the multi-disciplinary specialties that use our services.

We are seeking to recruit a dynamic, compassionate, motivated and caring Nurse to join our friendly, forward thinking team.
You will be expected to maintain high standards of care with compassion and commitment.

You will need to effectively engage with your patients, peer groups, and service users in all elements of the role, leading by example and promoting a supportive and caring culture. This will require an inclusive, transparent, open approach to your role, whereby you are accountable to others and to go that extra mile when required.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidenced-based nursing care to a group of patients.
  • Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care.
  • Act as a clinical and professional role model, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement within the clinical area.
  • This role can involve frequent walking and standing for long periods of time. The post holder must have the physical capability to use manual handling equipment i.e. hoists, trolleys and wheelchairs.

You may be required to work in other designated locations of the Trust as well as your primary base. In particular, flexibility is required across four areas including Leicester Royal Infirmary, Glenfield Hospital, Loughborough NCSEM and Leicester General Hospital .If your initial location is one of these sites excess travel reimbursement would not apply for a permanent or temporary change of base.

NMC registration is essential.

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

  • Required to act independently, following policies and procedures and adhering to pre-set standards, escalating issues to the Senior Nursing staff where necessary.
  • Take responsibility for the care needs of individual and groups of patients.
  • Carry out duties consistent with individual patient wishes, maintaining privacy, dignity, have an understanding of the Department of Health guidance for same sex awareness and recognising cultural diversity and needs.
  • Collect, collate and fully accurately report patient information, maintaining accurate complete and up to date nursing records.
  • Recognise, prioritise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations. 
  • Post holder will be expected to attend regular departmental team meetings. These will be held in the outpatient departments across UHL.
  • To perform the necessary clinical procedures, e.g.  wound dressings, bandaging, appropriate to the clinical specialty, following training and competency assessment as required, throughout the Outpatients Department.
  • To manage specific outpatients clinic areas on a daily basis including taking charge as designated.
  • To act as mentor and supervisor for Student Nurses.
  • To act as link nurse for various specialist areas, i.e. Infection prevention, Tissue Viability, Older people’s Champion etc. as designated.
  • Administration of medication within the department in line with Trust Policy.
  • To participate in the provision of nursing and clinical support to specialists clinics throughout the Outpatients Department, e.g.  following the appropriate training and competency assessment.
  • To participate in the supervision of other staff groups (i.e. bands 1-4) in the performance of their individual roles and duties.
  • To participate in the counselling of patients as required following diagnoses and/or bad news.
  • To assist in maintaining a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors reporting any accidents or potential hazards to the nurse in charge.
  • To participate in the provision of comfort measures for patients including the collection of snack boxes, provision of fresh drinking water and preparation of hot and cold drinks as required.
  • To contribute to effective communication within the multi-disciplinary team, receiving regular team updates and information for the effective day to day running of the department.
  • To be responsible for the daily checking of the Blood Glucose monitors according to the manufacturers’ instructions and recording these checks in the appropriate book.
  • To be responsible for the daily checking of oxygen levels and suction pumps and recording in the appropriate emergency equipment checklists.
  • To take the lead responsibility for the department on occasions.
  • To complete appraisals for staff.
