Clinical Oncology Fellow in Proton Therapy – ST3+

An exciting opportunity has arisen at UCLH to join the Proton Beam Therapy Team as a Clinical Fellow.
The post holders will be involved in advanced radiotherapy planning of patients receiving proton therapy as well as conducting on treatment reviews and outcome collection. This offers an unparalleled opportunity to gain experience in radiotherapy for children and teenagers and for sarcoma, brain and head and neck cancers. The post holder would be expected to be engaged with clinical trials as well as review and audit of the evolving service.
This post would be suitable for a clinical oncology trainee seeking experience to augment their programmed clinical training. The post holder will be responsible to the Clinical Lead for Proton Beam Therapy. Full GMC Registration is required. Possession of FRCR is desirable.

Clinical duties will involve attending outpatient clinics, multidisciplinary team meetings and PBT planning meetings.

The successful candidates will have a unique training opportunity to follow patients through their PBT treatment course.

They will be involved with initial patient assessment, radiotherapy pre-assessment and planning, reviewing patients on-treatment  and robust collection of clinical outcomes.

They will gain dedicated experience in the management of patients receiving PBT and learn about the clinical differences between PBT and photon treatments.

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Medical degree
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
  • Completed core medial training or equivalent

  • GMC registration and entry on the appropriate GMC Specialist Register
  • Fellowship of Royal College of Radiologists
  • Knowledge of the Clinical Governance framework of the NHS (including Research governance) and understanding of current changes in the organisation and management structures of the NHS. Ability to act within these parameters
  • Completed FRCR part 1

Experience

  • Experience in clinical oncology
  • Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Clinical audit experience

  • Undergoing or completed higher specialist training in clinical oncology
  • Experience of laboratory research
