As one of the largest Trusts in the UK the Critical care Outreach Team provides a diverse and comprehensive CCOT service to all adult patients within NUH which includes specialties such as: Neurosurgery, Haematology, Major Trauma, Renal and Infectious diseases.

The CCOT team provides a 24/7 service, 365 days a year across both City and Queens’s campuses. The post holders will therefore be expected to work a combination of day and night shifts.
All staff work across both campuses in order to provide a truly flexible service to meets the ever-changing needs of the critically ill/ deteriorating ward patient throughout NUH. alongside, Participation in the Critical Care/ CCOT rotation programme and works in Critical Care areas as service requires. This makes this role a truly exciting job unlike any other.
Applicants should have a minimum of 4 years’ experience at Band 5 within the acute setting, ideally 1 of which should be within a critical care area.
The band 6 CCOT role requires the individual to have excellent communication skills to be able to present and receive complex information and escalate information to the CCOT band 7 and MDT. In addition you will need to demonstrate the ability to use critical care skills outside of the critical care environment and respond to, prioritise and analyse complex problems and situations to ensure effective interventions and timely escalation is implemented.
The post holder must be willing to develop an extensive knowledge of common clinical situations encountered within the range of specialties across the Trust as well as providing both formal and informal teaching to staff at all levels and contributing to the on-going development of the service.
You will be supported with a formal induction and training programme. All members of the CCOT are expected to complete specific competencies related to the role as part of their development. There will be opportunities for additional training and education, and you will be supported by experienced Band 7 CCOT Clinical Nurse Educator and the Critical Care and CCOT matron. Specific Band 6 objectives are also in place to ensure career progression and opportunities within the team.

- Evidence of continuing professional development

- Diploma or degree in health/ nursing/ physiotherapy related studies

Experience

- significant experience at Band 5 within the acute setting, ideally 1 of which would be within critical care/ acute care setting
- Evidence of ability to utilise critical care skills outside of critical care environment
- Evidence of appropriate delegation, support and supervision of peers and junior staff
