Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals Cardiology Services for an Acute Cardiac Assessment Specialist Nurse.  This is a full-time role, initially Monday-Friday, 7.5 hour shifts leading to a 7 day working pattern as the service develops.   The role will currently be based at The Princess Royal Hospital (Telford), however you will also be required to work cross-site at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.   

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a specialist nursing service. The post holder will provide a comprehensive highly specialist assessment service to patients presenting via the emergency portals with a variety of suspected cardiac conditions and will formulate a working diagnosis and management plan for both patients for whom the Cardiac Assessment Nurse decides needs to be admitted and for those patients for whom outpatient pathway is appropriate.

The post holder will undertake Rapid Access Chest Pain clinics in line with the competencies of the service specification.

The post holder will act as an expert resource for members of other multi-disciplinary teams including but not exclusively in the ED, AMU and Cardiology Department. They will participate in education, audit, research, and development of new initiatives, assisting in the review and updating of cardiac service policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines both locally and trust wide.

The post holder will work closely with the Cardiology Consultants and middle grades to achieve the above roles.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RGN
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent experience
  • Coronary Care Unit Course Health related 1st degree Specialist Nursing Qualification
  • Advanced physical assessment skills and course at masters level or working
  • Non-medical prescribing or working to
  • Teaching and assessing qualification
  • Advanced life support certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership qualification
  • Evidence of previous service development / change management experience
  • First module of PWSI in cardiology completed and working towards completion of course

Knowledge, Behaviours and Experience

  • Proven relevant experience within cardiology service
