At Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust we have an exciting opportunity for an 18-month fixed term full-time training post in Echocardiography, commencing on 07th of October 2024.  This is part of the Echocardiography Training Programme developed by the National School of Healthcare Science and funded by Health Education England.

Successful candidates will be trained to BSE accreditation level 2 and will be awarded a Post-graduate Certificate in Clinical Echocardiography. For more information, please see the NSHCS website: https://nshcs.hee.nhs.uk/programmes/echocardiography-training-programme

Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust Hospital is a leading University Hospital and is committed to developing the future workforce for Cardiac Physiologist/Healthcare Scientists, having successfully trained 2 ETP trainees in the last 3 years.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The successful candidate will be expected to work in all areas of non-invasive diagnostic cardiology investigations across Epsom and St Helier Hospitals.

The post holder should be proficient at ECG interpretation, holter analysis and be able to lead exercise tolerance testing. Rotation around a broad range of technical areas will be necessary to maintain competencies for state registration.

The post holder will have the opportunity to develop skills in the following areas: head up tilt testing and Echocardiography if desired. This post is not dedicated to any specialised area within Cardiology Services.

The candidate must be able to perform resting ECGs and Cardiac Physiologist led exercise stress tests, hooking-up and analyses of 24hr ECG and non-invasive blood pressure ambulatory monitoring and assist in head-up tilt table testing (HUTT). Must be able to understand and interpret the results of these tests.

The candidate must also be able to work without supervision and understand the basic guidelines and procedures required to perform clinical tests and demonstrate that they can carry these out to the required standards.

  • 1st or 2:1 in Cardiac Physiology (PTP) or equivalent or a relevant scientific subject (examples include Pure or Applied Physics, Engineering, Biology or Human Biology or Sports Science - if significant scientific content)
  • Intermmediate Life Support certificate

  • The successful candidate should be RCCP or AHS registered

Experience
