Job overview

We  are  recruiting 3 WTE B6 Clinical Coding Specialists to join our well-established team.

The post holder will be ACC qualified with significant knowledge and experience in coding a wide variety of specialties and liaising with Clinicians for coding and documentation queries.

We extract clinical information from Oracle Millennium ePR and work in a hybrid model of 2 days on-site and 3 days remotely.

This post attracts £3000/year Recruitment and Retention premia subject to review.

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

  • Provide an efficient and high-quality clinical coding service by accurate and timely coding of complex case-mix inpatient Spells for all Trust Specialties
  • Act as expert Clinical Coder by liaising with Clinicians and Specialty Leads for queries related to source documentation and to validate coding where expertise is required to maximise income
  • To meet individual coding targets in productivity and accuracy to ensure that the team meets monthly reporting deadlines 
  • Provide specialist coding knowledge to less experienced staff

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·         To abstract highly complex clinical information from Trust Millenium EPR, BadgerNet system  and translate into accurate and complete ICD-10 and OPCS codes, adhering constantly to national coding standards and mandatory monthly timescales.

·         To critically examine and make independent judgement on whether coding should be carried out where diagnosis and procedural information is not transferable to exact codes or whether a more detailed investigation is required for accurate coding. Identify clinical documentation and data quality issues related to coding through analysis, investigation or validation

  • Provide support support for less experienced coding staff to assist with their coding queries and questions as they arise
  • Achieve Data Security & Protection Toolkit mandatory coding accuracy marks in clinical coding audits
  • To provide advice to Clinicians on issues relating to clinical coding e.g. documentation of co-morbidities and diagnosis versus signs & symptoms.
  • Sustained  and high level of concentration is needed on daily basis to extract highly complex information from Millenium EPR, BadgerNet system, and accurately translate into classification codes whilst adhering to NHS mandated rules and standards.
  • Constant use of VDU equipment via two display screens, and laptop, accessing simultaneously multiple Trust systems and inputting data, some of which is repetitive

  • • Evidence of continued professional development and attendance of formal clinical coding specialty workshops and coding refresher course
