Job overview
This is a senior role within the Culture Collections’ department and is the lead for the Culture Collections Product and Distribution Team.
The role will oversee sales and provide scientific and technical support to international distributors and the end users of the products and services. With the Head of Business Development, manage the commercial licence portfolio. The role requires business expertise and scientific knowledge.
Main duties of the job
- Manage the Culture Collections Product and Distribution team
- Develop relationships with all Culture Collections distribution partners
- Work with distributors to develop the sales of all products and services, and to organise meetings, training events, conferences, seminars and webinars
- Liaise with the Operational Leads of the four Collections, providing sales data and forecast of future demand to assist product manufacture planning
- Represent Culture Collections at national and international trade exhibitions
- Coordinate the production of monthly sales analysis and use this data to generate key performance indicators to monitor distributor performance
- Lead the Culture Collections commercial licencing portfolio

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Business planning and delivery
- Identify new business/product or service opportunities that are compatible with the Culture Collections business strategy.
- Project manage and coordinate the development of new services
- Contribute to the Business Planning process for the Head of Culture Collections
Financial and resource management
- Oversee the income generation activities of the Culture Collections business
- Manage the incoming and outgoing payments database. Ensuring royalty payments are paid and received in line with depositor agreements and commercial licences.
- Manage the commercial licence process for Culture Collections products
- Identify and implement savings proposals in agreement with the Senior Management Team
- Support performance management of contracts to ensure quality and value for money

Essential Criteria
- BSc in a relevant life science subject such as Biology, biochemistry, microbiology, biomedical science, genetics, zoology
- Post graduate qualification in Management or equivalent level of management experience
- Higher degree (MSc or PhD) in life sciences, preferably microbiology or cell culture science
- Qualification in a communications discipline, public engagement or similar
- Significant experience of successfully operating in a politically sensitive environment
- Proven experience of managing others in a managerial or supervisory role, including performance management, carrying out appraisal and development
- Demonstrate capabilities of co-ordinating projects in complex and challenging environments
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to produce and deliver customer presentations
- Good analytical skills especially working with and analysing sales data and presenting as key performance indicators
- Highly knowledgeable in a variety of software (Word, Excel) and social media applications
- Understanding of commercial processes including procurement and business development
- Significant post graduate laboratory experience either working with cell cultures and/or with microbial strains
- Experience of monitoring budgets and business planning processes

Location
This role is being offered as office based at our Scientific Campus in Colindale or Porton, with travel between sites and when required.
Based at our scientific campus, you will be required to have a Counter Terrorism Check security vetting check as a minimum. For meaningful National Security Vetting checks to be carried out individuals need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time. You should normally have been resident in the United Kingdom for the last 3 years as the role requires Counter Terrorism Check (CTC) clearance. In exceptional circumstances UK residency less than the outlined periods may not necessarily bar you from gaining national security vetting and applicants should contact the Vacancy Holder/Recruiting Manager listed in the advert for further advice.
Please note hybrid working is not available for this role.

Salary Information
If you are successful at interview, and are moving from another government department, NHS, or Local Authority, the relevant starting salary principles for level transfers or promotions will apply. Otherwise, roles are offered at the pay scale minimum for the grade, but in exceptional circumstances there may be flexibility if you are able to demonstrate you are already in receipt of an existing, higher salary. Pay increases are through the relevant annual pay award for the role and terms.
