Are you a strong team player, friendly and motivated? Then we may have the role for you!

York Hospital Catering Department requires enthusiastic Catering Operatives .

You must be able to use initiative, be self-motivated and have strong interpersonal and organisational/time management skills.

Applicants must be able to work under pressure, prioritise their own workload and be able to carry out physical tasks.

Main duties of the job

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivering food trollies to the ward areas.
  • Using ovens to regenerate food.
  • Keeping the kitchen areas clean.
  • Monitoring food temperatures as part of HACCP.
  • Washing up and other general cleaning duties.

The ideal candidate will have catering experience, be fantastic with customers, a good team player and able to work on their own unsupervised. Full training will also be provided. Enhanced rates apply when working at the weekend.

  • Ability to organise and priortise work effectively
  • Ability to work as an effective team member
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, employees and visitors
  • Ability to demonstrate a flexible approach to working practices
  • Ability to demonstrate tolerance and empathy with employees and clients at all times

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good basic education including reading, writing and numeracy skills
  • Basic understanding of how important food safety is
  • Be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Awareness of security and access control within the workplace

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • You will go through an induction programme on appointment for a number of weeks to provide the relevant training required for the role
Desirable criteria
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
