Job overview

An opportunity has arisen in Cancer Services to support the delivery of the national Cancer Waiting Times objectives.

The successful applicant will be responsible for tracking cancer suspicious/ cancer confirmed patients through their pathway, from the point of referral to treatment, in line with national standards.

The applicant will be responsible for ensuring timely escalations and treatments. The role is required to work closely with the operational service ensuring that patients pathways are expedited as required.

The role involves using multiple hospital systems, including PAS, ICE and Somerset.

The post holder is expected to cover other team members during periods of absence and increased activity.

Main duties of the job

To monitor patient journey against 14, 28, 31 and 62 day cancer waiting time targets, ensuring that each patient pathway is monitored against agreed pathways and in accordance with the Trusts Escalation Policy

Maintain robust data collection systems ensuring that clinical and non- clinical information, covering all aspects of the patient’s cancer journey is collected in a timely fashion and entered onto the cancer database and site specific tracking tools as applicable.  

Monitoring and amending data input to ensure accuracy and produce regular reports on the performance of the department in meeting waiting times

To liaise with diagnostic departments and clinical specialty staff across the Trust regarding patient appointment and care plans to ensure compliance with all agreed timescales 

To highlight potential breaches to targets as appropriate and identify appointments to be brought forward

To ensure that all data is accurately recorded on Somerset to ensure that patients are fully discussed at MDT ,  to include investigation reports  and pathology reports

To participate in the weekly cancer PTL performance meetings and follow up any agreed actions

To provide administration to MDT meetings, as and when required, including coordination of meetings, live minute taking, ensuring patients are discussed and outcomes actioned in a timely manner
