Job overview

To provide leadership within the main Horticulture and Trade Skills environment at Rampton High Secure Hospital

To utilise specific Vocational qualifications namely Horticulture or a known trade qualification to provide a service for male and female patients experiencing mental ill health (to include Mental Illness, Personality Disorder and Learning Disability).

To be responsible for the health and safety of staff and patients within the Horticulture and Trade Skills environment.

Main duties of the job

The post is situated within the Forensic Care Group and located in Rampton High Secure Hospital. 

The post holder will work with patients who present a risk to themselves and others and require treatment in a high secure setting. The post holder will supervise, instruct, and support patients in activities relating to their OT Vocational treatment programmes on and off wards and within the designated Horticulture and Trade skills area.

They will develop and deliver a needs led programme based on the individual patient’s Occupational Therapy goals. Take a lead role in the daily functions of the designated area of work. To include allocation of resources and compliance with Health and Safety and Security policy and procedures. They will take a  lead on specific service developments specific to the work area and provide specialist knowledge regarding the workplace.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Please note this post does not meet skill level required for a Skilled worker visa.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Be actively involved in the clinical risk assessment

process and feed into risk information documents and risk management plans for patients and adhere to these.

 Be actively involved in the assessment and treatment of individual patients. Working with Occupational therapists to ensure full packages of care are delivered effectively.

Successfully time manage and independently

priorities areas of responsibility.

Attend relevant departmental and wider meetings as required and appropriate.

Communicate effectively within own service and with other colleagues.

Be involved in Clinical Governance and quality assurance activities as required.

Accurately record statistical information for meaningful activity and other data requirements

Keep accurate, appropriate, and contemporaneous patient records on RIO in accordance with Trust Policy

Undertake administrative tasks as required by the service and the Directorate.

Ensure that all resources are available within the department to deliver the planned activities.

Attend and actively engage in relevant courses, workshops, tutorials, and conferences where appropriate.

Participating in the Trusts’ Performance Appraisal and Development process in line with the Knowledge and Skills Framework.

Continually update and develop skills and utilise continuous professional development (CPD) oopportunities

Complete all essential training.

Engage in regular clinical and managerial Supervision and ensure supervision of staff within own designated area.

Contribute to the training of other staff and patients as required within the allocated area and maintain accurate records of this.

Ensure the maintenance of a safe and secure treatment environment at all times.

Take joint responsibility for development and maintenance of all risk assessments and COSHH items required for the workplace and the equipment therein.

 

Jointly develop and adhere to specific activity risk management plans.

Work within Health and Safety legislation, Trust policies and local procedures, including external agencies e.g. DEFRA

Responsible for security and safety and maintains records and schedules of all equipment, resources, and tools within work area, and in line with High Secure Directions

Responsible for ensuring that any concerns about health and safety are managed effectively and in a timely manner.

Take personal responsibility for maintaining up to date knowledge and adhering to all Trust policies and local procedures.
