We are recruiting for a Matron for Special Care Baby Unit who wishes to join #TeamIOWNHS. You should share our passion and drive to ensure that our patients receive quality and compassionate care and work with us to ensure the Trust continues its journey towards “working together, improving together".

The successful candidate will be expected to support the Group model of working, collaborating across both Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust to deliver high-quality neonatal services and shared organisational objectives.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsibility for the leadership of nursing, midwifery and Allied Health Professionals (AHP’s) within Special Care Baby Unit.
  • Responsible for the delivery of safe and clinically and cost effective and compassionate care within the service, providing assurance evidence in this regard to the Head of Nursing & Quality.
  • Has professional responsibility for Senior Sisters, Charge Nurses, Team Leaders and some Allied Health Professionals within the services.
  • Leads clinical services in the Care Group.
  • Provides credible, visible and effective leadership nursing and midwifery staff within the services.

Qualifications and role specific knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered nurse (relevant to the field of practice of the Care Group and or Matron).
  • Live NMC Registration.
  • Educated to a bachelor’s degree level in Nursing, Midwifery, Leadership and Management or an Allied Health Professional degree.
  • Registered Allied Health Professional, or Pharmacist with live registration with the Registering Authority.
  • Management Qualification or relevant experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised teaching and assessing qualification.
  • Educated to Masters level.
  • Evidence of development or evidence based care.

Physical Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to initiate, lead and manage change.
  • Organisational and leadership skills.

Aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Specialist knowledge of the professional leadership and management of nursing, midwifery, or Allied Health Professional services has been developed.
  • Evidence of ongoing and relevant personal and professional development in the last 2 years.
  • Expert knowledge of nursing and Allied Health Professional practice and understanding of related clinical services providing clinical advice to annual planning and service developments.
