Job overview

The Trust are seeking one qualified trades person (Joiner) to join the Estates Maintenance Team working at our Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber sites. You will be part of a great team who are responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive maintenance and installation service across the Trust’s estate.  The post attracts a band 5 salary.

Applicants must hold NVQ level 3 qualifications in a trade and have undertaken an apprenticeship in a mechanical/joinery or building related discipline. You will be carrying out maintenance and installation work across our Trust properties and work with a variety of our specialist contractors and engineers on a variety of systems. Our aim is to provide our patients and staff with compliant, safe, and pleasant environments to work in. You will enjoy working with all our clinical staff, nurses, doctors, and corporate staff to support them in their work.

Main duties of the job

To carry out the repair, maintenance or installation of all plant, equipment, systems and building structure/fabric associated with all Trust properties. This will consist of planned preventative maintenance (PPMs), testing and calibration, fault finding, emergency response, defect correction and minor works.

You will be employed to work appropriate to your core skills around building and engineering plant and equipment maintenance. You will progressively be trained, where required, to acquire other skills with the intention of reaching levels of multi trade flexibility and competence.  You will work closely with the Senior Technicians to improve planned maintenance.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • An apprenticeship qualification in a mechanical, electrical or building related discipline.
  • 4-year accredited apprenticeship training course, level 3 vocational qualification. City & Guilds or equivalent qualifications alongside to support the NVQ level 3
  • Post apprenticeship diploma, ONC or HNC or degree or an equivalent level of knowledge and experience in mechanical or electrical maintenance
  • Other training related to healthcare engineering systems. Accredited HTM Competent Person course or appropriate M&E maintenance experience and willingness to undertake CP training as required.
  • Additional trade relevant certification e.g. Refrigeration, Pressure Systems, Fixed Wiring, gas appliances, alarm systems or other specialist areas
  • Level 3 Joinery qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to demonstrate suitable post apprenticeship experience in non-routine maintenance of complex engineering plant and equipment with a broad understanding of other trade disciplines.
  • Experience of liaison with and supervising building and engineering contractors.
Desirable criteria
  • Computer systems experience
  • Previous experience in a hospital maintenance environment with exposure to all building and engineering aspects.
  • Mentoring and Training experience.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the techniques and standards of building, mechanical or electrical engineering services and contract procedures with a minimum of four years continuous, relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Policy and Safe Working Procedures.
  • Knowledge of statutory legislation and relevant Codes of Practice
  • Knowledge of operating a computerised building management system and/or panel drawings in diagnosing faults
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS Technical standards and HTM’s and where to find them

Skills/ Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Effective communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Able to read, understand and analyse complex engineering systems and drawings.
  • Effective planning skills.
  • Ability to work under own initiative in a demand driven service.
  • Supervisory of apprentices
  • Able to travel within the geographical work area in a timely and effective manner
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with Microsoft software and general computer literacy.
  • Mentoring and training experience.
