An Exciting Opportunity for a Band 7 High Risk Clinical Lead Podiatrist
Post 0.6 WTE - 22.5 hours -
The successful candidate will work 15 hours at SFH and 7.5 hours in a community setting
Band 7 Advanced Podiatrist (MDT) - Diabetes
The postholder will working alongside the existing team of Advanced Podiatrist, based at Sherwood Forest Hospital within the multidisciplinary team caring for the diabetic foot.
The successful candidate should have an interest in complex high risk patients, advanced vascular assessment and treatment of the ulcerated foot.
Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check.
Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.
You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the Nottingham Community Podiatry Team your main duties will include -
To provide a podiatry service for people requiring the care of the Multi-disciplinary (MDT) Diabetes Foot Clinics within Sherwood Forest Hospital
Clinics within the location are both consultant and independently podiatry lead.
Provide highly skilled podiatric interventions for people with the most complex/highest need for treatment and management of their foot conditions.
You should also have experience of team working, but be able to work independently to deliver a highly skilled and demanding needs of the service provided.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and other health professionals both internally and externally to develop and enhance services to meet the changing needs of the population and the national and local picture.
Applicants must be HCPC registered and hold a degree or Diploma in Podiatric Medicine and a certificate for Local anaesthesia. You should also have experience of team working, but be able to work independently to deliver a highly skilled service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are looking for a committed and compassionate individual with extensive clinical high-risk knowledge, and leadership experience to work in hospital based MDT within Nottinghamshire.
Working collaboratively with the Team Leads and Podiatry Service Manager, you will be required to cohesively support and direct a team of hospital based podiatrists to manage both diabetic, high-risk patient caseload.
Full job details are included in the specific job description. The main responsibilities include -
To cover 15 hours clinical duties within hospital based service and 7.5 hours within a community setting
Take clinical responsibility for caseload management and treatment of complex high-risk cases
Take clinical responsibility for the work undertaken by the podiatry staff working within the MDT and work alongside the diabetic consultant and other health professionals within the diabetes team.
To be able to work autonomously and to be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, care planning, management and evaluation of podiatric interventions, and know when to refer on appropriately.
To participate in the support of placements for podiatry, AHP and other health professions students
To supervise and mentor podiatrists to complete and maintain competency level.
To be actively involved in the provision of foot health education and advice to staff, patients, relatives and carers and to participate in foot health training where appropriate.
To follow departmental and trust policies and procedures and guidelines, but also have the discretion to make own clinical diagnosis and decisions within professional guidelines.
A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc in Podiatry or equivalent.
- POM-A Local Anaesthesia Certificate.
- POM-S Sale and Supply Certificate.
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development.
- Post graduate qualification in diabetes and the foot.
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate qualification e.g., MSc, or equivalent experience.
- Independent prescribing annotation.
- PGEC or equivalent teaching qualification.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Appropriate post-graduate experience of working in podiatry providing diabetes and high-risk related foot assessment and management and complex wound care.
- Evidence of clinical development following qualification.
- Demonstrate a broad spectrum of clinical experience.
- Experience of supervising/mentoring staff and clinical placement students.
- Post graduate experience of working within an acute multi-disciplinary diabetes team.
- Experience of audit and report writing.
- Significant Post graduate NHS experience.
Desirable criteria
- Teaching/presenting experience.
- Change management experience.
- Able to be constructively critical with experience of research/project work.
- Experience of publishing in journals.
- Previous experience of leading a team and service planning.
- Working in an existing Foot Protection Team.
Knowledge

- Advanced knowledge in the podiatric care of following areas: diabetes, wound care, vascular.
- Able to devise, implement, and co-ordinate highly specialised treatment regimes.
- Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of podiatry relevant to role.
Desirable criteria
- Advanced knowledge of Podiatric dermatology and biomechanics.
- Must be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of care Trust values and be able to articulate in practice.
