Community Learning Disability Team Manager

Job overview

The post holder will be based within the Learning Disability and Forensic directorate. Working closely with the Learning disability Service Manager to review the current business activities within the service. The post holder will also be the lead in promoting the service, identifying good practice, and working closely with the team to implement any recommendations. The post holder will have direct line management responsibilities for the agreed service and robust management of the team. The community team manager will assist and oversee the day-to-day operational responsibilities for the clinical services within the community team and  the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

·         To contribute to the development of the community health team services.

·         To lead and embed the principles of transforming care across the learning disability service.

·         To provide support to the service manager to meet the aims and objectives of the service including deputising and delegated responsibilities

·          To provide support to the service manager in the effective day to day management of the team within the resources available and agreed governance frameworks.

·         To review staffing levels and skill mix as necessary.

·         To be responsible for the leadership, mentorship, and support of staff daily.

·         To manage and provide management / clinical supervision to staff under your line management.

·         Work within the infection control agenda to improve standards.

·         Improving environments for patients.

·         To work with patients and their carer/relative in addressing concerns by building closer relationships.

To promote partnership working with patients, carers, and stakeholders

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RNLD or RMN with significant LD experience
  • ENB 998 or equivalent
  • Evidence of on-going continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Management qualification e.g. MHSC or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate demonstrable post registered and senior position experience.
  • Experience of working within a community team.
  • Working with carers.
  • Experience of having managed staff groups and services, including recruitment, supervision, appraisal, staff development and disciplinary.
  • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development.
  • Understanding of national legislation: MHA 1983, Human Rights Act 1998, Mental Capacity Act 2005.
  • Experience of chairing meetings.
  • Effective leadership and management skills.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise own workload and that of others.
  • The ability to manage change.
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of clinical governance framework, and knowledge of government policy and its impact on service delivery.
  • Multi-agency partnership working at operational level.
  • Evidence of initiating change.

Evidence of Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate the ability to influence and to motivate the clinical practice of others.
  • Able to demonstrate a flexible approach to the provision of holistic, clinically effective care.
  • Basic computer skills, NVQ1 or 2 or equivalent
  • Well developed management skills.
  • Good clinical communicatipon skills, and the ability to communicate sensitive information.
  • Ability to work to agreed deadlines and budgets.
Desirable criteria
  • Preparation of user accessible information in a variety of formats.
  • Ability to create and maintain complex working relationships aross agencies and within the trust.
  • To encourage and motivate staff to work towards the provision of effective, evidence-based practice
  • Ability to establish clear standards of performance and work priorities for self and others.
  • Ability to interpret guidance and develop practice.
  • Ability to teach groups of staff prepare and undertake presentations.
  • Experience in managing a caseload of clients with complex needs.
