Job overview

A vacancy has arisen for a compassionate and caring Clinical Support Worker to join our team, specialising in the care of older people on the Acute Frailty Unit at Lancaster.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and flexible individual who is committed to delivering the highest standards of patient care. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and a dedication to supporting patients and colleagues within a busy clinical environment.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of older people while working as part of a supportive and multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

You will work on a rotational roster, covering a 24-hour service that includes weekends, nights, and bank holidays.

Working within a dynamic and motivated multidisciplinary team, you will provide high-quality care to patients living with frailty and age-related conditions. Reporting to the Registered Nurse responsible for the patient's care, you will work closely with ward managers and the wider healthcare team to ensure patients receive safe, compassionate, and person-centred care.

Your day-to-day duties will include supporting patients with personal care activities such as washing, dressing, toileting, and maintaining their comfort and dignity. You will assist patients with mobility, nutrition, hydration, and engagement in meaningful activities to promote independence and wellbeing during their hospital stay.

You will also support patients living with dementia, cognitive impairment, delirium, and other complex physical and mental health needs, promoting a calm, reassuring, and therapeutic environment. The role requires patience, empathy, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering outstanding care to older people and their families.

The successful candidate will demonstrate kindness, compassion, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering outstanding care to older people in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.
