Job overview

The pharmacy production unit based in the Bristol royal infirmary are looking for a Band 2 Specialist Cleaner/Assistant Technical Officer (ATO), who is keen to provide service support to our aseptic unit and non-sterile manufacturing service.

The unit provides aseptically prepared products for children and adults and the role involves specialist cleaning of the clean rooms and associated clean areas.

You will be joining our dynamic team of pharmacists, technicians and assistants at an exciting time as we continue to develop a first class aseptic and non-sterile manufacturing unit.

You will be working alongside a team of 2 other Specialist Cleaner/ATO's, a specialist cleaner and a non sterile ATO to support the department by maintaining our cleanroom cleanliness and manufacture our non-sterile products.

Good communication & interpersonal skills would be ideal, and you must be motivated, flexible, adaptable, and able to work well in a team.

Previous experience is not essential as full training will be given once in post, some cleaning experience is advantageous as the role does have a considerable amount of cleaning.

This role is suitable for applications from school or college leavers, and anyone who is interested in working in this field. A visit to the department prior to, or whilst applying for this post is highly recommended.

Main duties of the job

Undertaking the specialist cleaning of the cleanroom areas and associated support areas as defined by departmental standard operating procedures.

Supporting the specialist cleaner in other cleaning tasks as deemed appropriate by the senior team.

Undertaking manufacture of non-sterile medicines such as over labelled packs of tablets, creams, ointments, oral suspensions and liquids.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

For detailed job description and main responsibilities, please see attached document. Please ensure you detail how you meet the essential criteria in your supporting information.

Please be aware that the production unit is a very clean environment. A large part of the work will be undertaken in specialist aseptic clean room facilities which we are required to operate under strict regulatory rules. The guidelines covering the operation of these aseptic facilities mean that staff members with certain long term or recurrent medical or health conditions, such as gastrointestinal or skin conditions, can represent a risk of microbial contamination which therefore precludes access to the clean room.

For candidates’ information, our Occupational Health team will carry out an assessment at the stage when conditional offers are made. The assessment will consider whether any candidate would not be able to work in an aseptic facility and/or whether any candidate would be able to work in an aseptic facility with any restrictions or reasonable adjustments.
