A fantastic opportunity has arisen to apply for the newly created position of Highly Specialist Pharmacist for Emergency Care  at North  Manchester General Hospital. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Emergency Department  as well as the wider Pharmacy team. We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated pharmacist. This varied and challenging position presents a great opportunity to make a real difference to patient care, demonstrate your ability to innovate and implement change, and lead, support and progress the pharmacy services. 

Main duties of the job

Then postholder will work in the Emergency Department, developing and delivering excellent pharmaceutical services to patients with a wide range of often complex medical and surgical problems.

You will be an active part of the Emergency Department MDT, providing expert medicines advice to staff and patients, reviewing medication incidents and developing clinical guidelines with ED peers across the wider Trust. You will perform a pivotal role in the provision of education and training to the multi-disciplinary team and ensure key governance priorities are met. If you are not already an independent non-medical prescriber, we would look to support you to achieve this qualification as a departmental priority.

Applicants must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a team whilst also managing your own workload. You must be dynamic, resilient, and be able to manage and motivate others. You will have the ability to influence the multidisciplinary team and engage with key stakeholders.

Essential criteria
  • Current membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable criteria
  • Member of National/ International Specialist Organisation in area of responsibility

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Vocational Masters degree (or equivalent) in Pharmacy. Post-graduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy. One year pre-registration training. Successful completion of pre-registration examination.
  • 1 year pre registration training and experience
  • Member of the GPhC
  • Post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent documented clinical experience
Desirable criteria
  • Independent non-medical prescribing qualification. Attendance at relevant conferences and training courses

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in hospital pharmacy in a clinical role. Experience of specialist hospital pharmacy services or experience in the area of responsibility. Demonstrates expert clinical knowledge and skills. Sound clinical knowledge and understanding. Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Able to lead and act on own initiative
  • Experience in delivering training and education.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • Research experience. Awareness of current Government, Trust and local policies. Previous experience in delivering training and education.

  • Excellent analytical/ problem solving skills particularly with respect to use of medicines in complex situations. Able to lead and act on own initiative (assertive). Able to organise, prioritise and meet deadlines. Able to work as part of a team. Good oral and written communication skills. Organised and methodical approach to work. Enthusiastic and selfmotivated and ability to motivate others. Able to manage difficult and ambiguous problems. An advanced level of clinical reasoning and judgement. Able to recognise limitations. Basic computer skills. Excellent influencing and negotiating skills. Numeracy and literacy.

  • Experience of evaluating financial information related to use of medicines. Demonstration of innovation. Able to delegate authority appropriately.
