Allied Health Professions: Requirements and registration

Radiographer

There are two types of radiographer:

  • Diagnostic radiographers produce xrays and use them to determine the diagnosis of injury and disease.
  • Therapeutic radiographers plan and deliver prescribed treatments using X-radiation and other radioactive sources.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for a BSc degree course in either diagnostic or therapeutic radiography is decided by individual higher education institutions (HEI). The usual minimum academic entry requirements for a degree course in radiography are three GCSEs grades A-C and two GCE A levels, or equivalent, such as BTEC. It is preferable to have some science subjects.

Once you have obtained the degree it is necessary to become State Registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) .
