We currently have an opportunity for a newly configured post as a  Band 7 Blood Transfusion Team Lead and invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced Biomedical Scientists at Band 6 level or above currently working predominantly within a Blood Transfusion Laboratory.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate is expected to work ‘on-bench’ to maintain practical skills required for personal technical competencies to fulfil the role and out of hours participation is a requirement of this post.

You should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to organise and motivate staff. The appointee will assist the Blood Transfusion management team in providing a comprehensive, cost effective, and high-quality Blood Transfusion service to the Trust. The appointee will represent Blood Transfusion at relevant Pathology and external meetings as required and will contribute to service improvements as well as facilitating delivery of current service provision across the Trust. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the education of laboratory staff in technical and quality issues within the sphere of laboratory BT and be involved in investigating SHOT/ SABRE incidents and presenting risk to a senior level.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Applicants must be HCPC Registered and at Band 6 level or above in a busy NHS Trust with significant Transfusion activity.

Higher level qualification is expected in BT practice such as Biomedical Scientist with Specialist portfolio in Blood Transfusion/ BTS Specialist Certificate in Transfusion Science Practice or however demonstrable experience in BT commensurate with the grade of the post is required.

The Trust Pathology Services are currently going through an outsourcing process; it is expected that this post will transfer via TUPE to a new service provider.
