Job overview
The Macmillan Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist is a critical link between the patient and the medical teams. They are driven with a deep desire to advocate for their patient, and to guide them through their cancer journey. We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated, enthusiastic, organised, compassionate, reliable and flexible who can prioritise their workload and demonstrate excellence in cancer care.
Main duties of the job
The candidate would show excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team and autonomously. You will need to be approachable, act as a role model and uphold the best standards of care for patients. The candidate will need to show ability to work effectively under pressure and manage challenging situations. You would need to have a keen interest in caring for head and neck patients to ensure patient centered care is delivered to meet patients' holistic care needs.
Working for our organisation
The Head and Neck Clinical Nurse team includes 3 Clinical Nurse Specialists and a Support Worker. You would be working within the multidisciplinary team including consultants and clinical teams in ENT and OMF, Matron, General Managers, Speech and Language Therapists (SALT), dietitians, outpatient and ward nursing teams. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
As a Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist you will be completing nurse led assessments of patient needs and coordinating patients ongoing journey from point of referral at time of diagnosis and beyond. You will be an advocate for the patient to ensure their choices and decisions are being followed and respected. You will provide emotional support for patients and their carers/relatives during their treatment and care.
You will be involved in working collaboratively, in partnership with the multidisciplinary team, to develop and advise highly specialised programme of care for patients. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist you will need to maintain ongoing professional development to ensure you are following current evidence based guidelines, policies and procedures for patient care.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and clinical experience i.e. cancer or palliative care module.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of Masters level learning /demonstrate willingness to undertake.
- Level 2 or above psychological skills training.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive years at Band 5 with specialist clinical skills and experience within relevant area of practice e.g., head and neck/ oncology/palliative care.
