Job overview

Are you a Clinical/ Counselling Psychologist who values compassionate care? Do you have an interest in supporting service users with gender incongruence? If so we’d love to hear from you!

What is Gender Identity Services? What do we do?

We provide a supportive environment, bringing together a wide range of experience into a highly specialised MDT which aims to address the needs of patients presenting with difficulties arising from gender dysphoria/incongruence. The team includes consultant clinical psychologists, mental health, learning disability and physical health nurses, speech and language therapists, a consultant psychiatrist, senior psychiatrists, consultant endocrinologists, GPs, gender outreach workers, doctoral level trainee clinical/counselling psychologists and a prescribing pharmacist.

The role will be fully supported by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. We’re looking for passionate people who have an interest in Gender Identity Services. Experience of working with a gender diverse population would be advantageous, in particular those candidates with prior experience of working in a gender identity service or those who have completed specific training in gender identity practice e.g. PGCert or PGDip in Gender Identity Healthcare Practice. The successful applicant will be competent in assessing gender dysphoria, psychiatric co-morbidity, co-occurring psychological difficulties and readiness for hormonal treatments.

Main duties of the job

The candidate will be providing services to service users as a senior clinical psychologist. To fulfill this role within the Leeds GIS, there is a requirement from the psychologist to be able to provide independent assessment, diagnosis, formulation and treatment recommendations for psychological therapy and/or gender affirming hormones. In addition to this, the candidate may be asked to provide extended assessment and short-term therapy.  The role offers the chance to utilise leadership skills in terms of providing supervision, consultation and facilitating formulation sessions for the multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
