Children and Young Person’s Occupational Therapist - Band 5/6 - Merton
Merton Community Occupational Therapy Service
37.5 hours per week
We are looking for a dynamic, self-motivated Occupational Therapist with paediatric or similar Occupational Therapy experience to join our new Community Health service in Merton Borough.
Your role will be to provide assessment, advice and treatment to children with a range of needs including physical disability, coordination disorders, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, global developmental delay and early years. Although community based, the role could also include work within the local specialist schools.
You will work closely with established multi-professional teams within Merton Community services and with outside services to deliver Occupational Therapy advice and treatment meeting the functional needs of children. You will have had experience of working with children in the community and or educational settings or similar and your communication and team working skills will be excellent.

We are committed to professional development and evidence-based practice, offering regular in-service training and peer group / one to one supervision. Internal and external courses are supported.
You will be required to have at least 2 years’ experience working as a practitioner with appropriate transferable skills working with children, engagement in post graduate training and education in areas related to working with either sensory integration disorders or Neuro developmental conditions is desirable. You should have experience of engaging in appraisal processes and be willing to further develop clinical skills.

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl
To be responsible for a complex clinical caseload of children and young people with a Merton GP or identified health needs in their Educational Health and Care Plan (EHCP) within Merton as commissioned by London Borough Merton and health commissioners.
To contribute to the assessment for Education Health and care plans (EHCP’s) for children and young people providing recommendations to meet outcomes in line with the Children’s Act 2014 and SEND code of practice 2015.
To provide updated health advice and recommendations for Annual Reviews (AR) of EHCP’s and attend annual reviews for complex cases where required.
To use standardized and non-standardized assessment, interview, and observation skills to determine needs of children and effectively set goals and plan intervention.
To effectively manage a defined complex caseload ensuring time management to enable effective service provision.

- Registered with the Health Care Professions Council
- Up to date knowledge through CPD

- Relevant post-registration specialist education related to Children and young people’ with physical disabilities
- Fieldwork educator course
- Evidence of attendance to training in assessment and treatment of children with complex functional needs
- Membership of relevant specialist groups such as the Children, Young People and Families specialist section of the British Association of Occupational Therapists, Sensory Integration Network
- Professionally active in Specialist Section
- Local/Regional Groups
