Job overview
A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Motor vehicle technician to join our team, working as part of the Fleet Maintenance Department for the North West Ambulance Service. The current vacancy is at our Haydock Workshop, maintaining the wide variety of vehicle fleet and associated equipment that operates within the large Merseyside geographic area.
The hours of work are in line with the current shift system, being split across two teams, spanning a seven-day week. Operational requirements for the workshops being 7:00am to 7:00pm Monday to Friday and 7:00am to 6:00pm Sat and Sun. The working week for each of the teams are 37.5hrs across a two-week average.

Working for our organisation
North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.
Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.
Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.
We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Qualifications and Education
Essential criteria
- City and Guilds certificate in motor vehicle technology or NVQ level 3 or equivalent qualifications and experience
- Good standard of education. Minimum 3 GCSE or equivalent.
- Full Driving Licence
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- The post holder must have specialist knowledge of motor vehicle electrical systems & mechanical components
- Comprehensive knowledge of a range of computer-based vehicle diagnostic systems and the ability to analyse and interpret the information presented by the systems to determine the most appropriate repair option
- Have the ability to diagnose all other vehicle faults without access to diagnostic equipment
