Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Dietitian to join our team of friendly dietitians and assistants at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust. We are one of the busiest acute trusts in London, based across Queen’s Hospital in Romford and King George Hospital in Goodmayes.
The successful applicant will be working within our neurosciences team and cover an inpatient caseload on the neurosurgical and neurological wards, in addition to general medical wards. With training they will also provide support to the senior specialist neurosciences dietitian on the neuroscience critical care unit as required. The department is actively involved in the education of other health care professionals and student dietitians, and you will be expected to participate in this training
We are committed to professional and personal development and you will benefit from many opportunities to develop and enhance the dietetic service whilst being supported in your own career development.
You need to have a recognised degree/diploma in Dietetics, be registered with the HCPC and have clinical knowledge and experience across a variety of disease states and dietetic therapies. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be a good team worker with the ability to use their own initiative.

To be responsible for providing specialist nutritional care for a defined area; including assessment, dietary therapy and monitoring to patients and their carers. The defined area includes, but is not limited to, neurosurgery and other neurological disorders, as well as care of the elderly, general medical and /or surgical wards
To act as a source of dietary expertise for colleagues and other health care professionals across the organisation.
To work as integral part of the Dietetic team in ensuring that the service is fully covered over the periods of leave
To contribute to the Trust clinical governance programme by participating in audits, development and implementation of evidence based guidelines/protocols/policies and continuing professional development
Working for our organisation
We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal.
We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.
Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.
These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year.
The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
