Job overview

Main duties of the job

If you are interested in medical specialties, and wish to gain exposure to, and experience in, a wide range of high-quality medical placements, then you should apply today.   This medical rotation is not an accredited training post, but content is organised to mirror Internal Medicine Training.  The successful applicant will be supervised in the same way as individuals undertaking Internal Medicine Training and will be offered the same opportunities to attend teaching and become involved in quality improvement work if the successful candidate wishes. This post would be ideal for someone who is considering a medical speciality as a career and will allow exposure to a variety of subspecialities within Medicine as the candidate will rotate through four different medical placements (3 month rotations) over the course of the year

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This post is an opportunity to gain experience in a variety of medical specialities with the successful candidate rotating across 4 different specialities over the course of a year in 3-month rotations; examples of potential rotations are given below although these may be subject to change.  Educational opportunities and departmental teaching will be provided to the successful candidate who will be supported to develop areas of interest including research and audit; they will be encouraged to attend Internal Medicine teaching and be offered a half day of self -directed learning time/ month.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Primary Medical Qualification.
  • Full GMC registration and hold a current licence to practise at time of application.
  • Minimum of 2 years postgraduate medical experience by time of appointment (equivalent to that obtained in a UK foundation training programme).
  • Evidence of foundation competences (FPCC or equivalent).

Clinical Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience working in the NHS.
  • Good history & examination skills.
  • Able to formulate a working diagnosis.
  • Able to order appropriate investigations.
  • Image interpretation relevant to practice.
  • Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of competence in care of medical patients at post FY2 Level.

Maintaining Clinical Competence

Essential criteria
  • Written evidence of satisfactory training to date e.g. workplace assessments.

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Experience of supervising junior staff.
  • Ability to teach clinical skills.

Clinical Governance, Audit and Research

Essential criteria
  • Experience of audit projects.
