Senior sister/Charge Nurse
Department: Cardiac Catheter Lab
Band 7 pro rata if part-time
Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
We are looking for a dynamic, motivated individual to join our team as the Cardiac Catheter Lab Manager.
This role is pivotal in providing senior leadership for the staff within the Cath Lab, managing the efficiency, effectiveness and productivity of the lab and working closely with the Consultants both at Milton Keynes and Oxford to develop the service further.
Our Cardiac Suite comprises of a catheter lab and a purpose-built recovery for up to 6 patients.
We undertake diagnostic angiograms, Percutaneous coronary angioplasty (PCI), implant loop recorders, pacemakers and defibrillators, DC Cardioversions and perform TOE and stress echoes within the lab environment.
To be successful in this position, you will have already gained significant experience within the cath lab setting in your professional role and have evidence of ongoing professional and leadership/management experience. You will be required to manage all of the department’s resources, including the equipment, the budget and the staff and must demonstrate that you have suitable skills to undertake this.

This role is a full-time position, the Unit’s core hours are Monday – Friday 7am-8.00 pm and the successful candidate will work their 37.5hrs/week within those hours.
The Cardiology department in Milton Keynes is supported by 7 Consultant Cardiologists, with a variety of specialist interests. The department is also made up of a 26 bedded cardiology ward including CCU, a cardiac investigations unit, cardiac rehab service, a specialist nurse team and admin staff. The whole team are passionate about cardiology and committed to delivering an outstanding individualised experience for every patient.
The post holder will be operationally managing the cardiac catheter suite, monitoring the quality and performance of the service to ensure that resources are effectively and efficiently deployed. The post holder needs to be dynamic and keen to support the team to move forward in a rapidly changing environment.
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining an environment which is conducive to the delivery and maintenance of a high standard of patient centred care.
The post holder will work in partnership with the Clinical Lead, senior managers, professional leads, departmental managers and the cardiology Matron, taking lead responsibility for the operational management of the lab, for scheduling within the lab and working with the necessary departments for the procurement of catheter lab consumables.

1.The post holder carries overall responsibility for the clinical area and will pay particular attention to the co-ordination, the scheduling and staffing of the cardiac catheter labs ensuring patient flow is smooth and cancellations are at a minimum.
2. To act as an effective leader both professionally and managerially for all members of staff.
3. Be responsible for the assessment, development, implantation and evaluation of care, in conjunction with the unit’s aims, objectives and philosophy.
4. To take responsibility for the investigation and management of staffing issues, in relation to sickness and absence, poor performance, harassment, disciplinary and grievance issues using the relevant Trust policies, in order to develop an overview of human resource issues.
Clinical practice
1. Be responsible for the day-to-day management of the unit, to be a point of contact for all unit staff as necessary.
2. Provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence within the department in whom patients can have confidence and turn to for assistance, advice, support and, where appropriate, intervention.
3. To demonstrate a professional approach to the leadership and management of staff within the cardiology department and Division, by creating an environment in which excellence in clinical practice will flourish.
Management
1.To develop a robust induction package for new staff within the department.
2.To participate in the development of Divisional and Trust policies, ensuring that they reflect the strategic plans of the Trust.
3.To participate in in-service training programmes as required including all mandatory training.
4.To participate in the strategic development of the Division and nursing within the Trust, taking the lead where appropriate.
Education
1.To ensure a programme of personal development plans is initiated and maintained for all nursing staff within the sphere of responsibility.
2.To ensure a learning environment is created and maintained for pre-registration students, qualified nurses, healthcare assistants and technicians.
3.To support staff through the change process, identify new education/ training needs and the consequent effects on patient care.
