Deputy Ward Sister (12 month Secondment)

A fantastic opportunity has arisen within our female respiratory team for a band 6 junior sister /charge nurse secondment on ward 16 at MKUH. You will be expected to have oversight of the clinical area, supporting the ward manager to lead and manage the team, whilst promoting a safe environment for our patients.
Ward 16 is a 29 bedded female respiratory ward. The unit delivers care to a range of acute and chronic conditions supporting COPD, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, exacerbation of asthma, pulmonary oedema and respiratory failure as well as other acute treatment. The successful candidate must have good communication and organisational skills. A background in Respiratory medicine is desirable but not essential.

Main duties of the job
To provide specialised nursing care to patients with respiratory conditions, including assessment, treatment and ongoing support.
This role requires the post holder to lead and supervise shifts , coordinating care amongst the Multidisciplinary team and contributing to the management of the respiratory service.
Within this role you will be required to educate patients on their conditions, inhaler techniques and medication management.
To ensure that you work alongside the management team to ensure a ward environment that is safe and supportive of our patients, their families and our colleagues.
To ensure that nursing procedures are carried out in accordance with the trust policies and procedures and ensuring that safety is always maintained.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To contribute to the ward setting and to respiratory services by improving and monitoring standards of care within the ward
· To act as a positive role model and to seek opportunities in the specialist area to grow and share your knowledge base
· To be responsible in association with the ward manager for the formulation and implementation of individual patient care plans
· To participate in the holistic assessment of the patients’ needs
· To assist in the promotion of effective communication with all ward staff
· Promote the safeguarding needs of vulnerable patients in line with national and local policy.
