Job overview

We have a Band 7 Renal Pharmacist role, looking for a vibrant, passionate and committed clinical pharmacist willing to provide vital clinical services to wards, clinics and satellite dialysis units. Participating in daily consultant ward rounds and developing clinical pharmacy skills to a higher level. Participating in weekly antibiotic stewardship rounds as part of the MDT. 

Supporting transplant and nephrology with home delivery of medicines and review of complex pharmaceutical patients in a clinic setting. 

Developing skills in reviewing drug financial expenditure and providing drug expenditure reports. Providing educational and training support to medical, nursing and pharmacy staff to a high standard as a centre of excellence and collaboration whilst maintaining trust values.

Main duties of the job

•    Review prescriptions for their clinical appropriateness, safety and legality.

•    Input prescription information using the Pharmacy Computer system.

•    Provide evaluated pharmaceutical advice and information, to all health care professionals and patients of the Trust using on-line data bases and primary sources.

•    Manage accountable staff.

•    Set objectives and undertake performance reviews and appraisals in accordance with departmental guidelines.

•    Supervise a trainee pharmacist project if required.

•    Professional screen/check prescriptions, thus taking professional responsibility, as required by legislation.

Person specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Master’s degree in pharmacy or equivalent
  • Member of the GPhC
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice (or soon to be completed).
Desirable criteria
  • Non-medical Prescriber.

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good ability to organise and prioritise work.
  • Good clinical practice.
  • Ability to influence senior pharmacy and medical staff, the multidisciplinary team and management.
  • A good understanding of national and local priorities.
  • Analytical ability for problem solving.
  • Good ability to use computer systems including excel and word.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Able to work both alone and in a team.
  • Good personal organisation and time management skills.
  • Ability to identify and manage risks.
Desirable criteria
  • Good clinical practice and knowledge of renal speciality services.
  • Good ability to analyse drug usage reports.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 18 months post registration training and experience in hospital pharmacy
  • This must include a solid ground in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice (medicines’ information, aseptic services, ward services and dispensing, clinical pharmacy rotations specialist or otherwise).
  • Previous experience in delivering training and education.
  • Experience in managing others.
  • Demonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate and communicate therapeutic options for the patients.
  • Demonstrable use of clinical audit to improve practice.
Desirable criteria
  • 18 to 24 months post registration training.
  • Renal experience.
