Job overview
The Royal Surrey Cancer Centre is looking for a committed, enthusiastic Therapist to deliver expertise in psychosexual therapy.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the strategic direction and delivery of a quality service to patients and lead and develop this specialist area.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate a high level of up-to-date relevant clinical knowledge and experience with relevant post registration training and development

Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a psychosexual therapist with experience in psychosexual, sexual health and relationship counselling, to join the RSCH TYA Cancer service. The role of the Teenager and Young Adult Psychosexual therapist is to support young people diagnosed with cancer manage the psychosexual and relationship consequences of a cancer diagnosis, treatment and late effects. The post holder will work alongside the Teenager and Young Adult cancer team and liaise with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure this service is of the highest quality and supports the best interests of the patient.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for providing a qualified psychosexual therapy service providing psychosexual therapy assessments, therapy and treatment services to TYA patients experiencing sexual dysfunction, intimacy and relationship difficulties under the care of RSCH TYA Cancer care team.
The role will require an understanding of:
· Age-specialist psychosexual needs of this age-group (18-30)
· Oncology Referral Pathways, including referral routes to further specialist clinical support or interventions
· Psychological Referral Pathways, including referral routes to further specialist clinical psychological support or interventions will be essential in the role
· Supporting and advocating for age-specialist improvement initiatives to improve the experiences and outcomes of TYA patients cancer experiences.
Using Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) to support patients recovery and support their post traumatic growth. Using EMDR as a therapeutic approach to aid patients processing of any trauma caused by their cancer experience, that’s affecting their mental health, intimacy, relationships and wellbeing.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Professional accredited qualification in psychosexual and relationship counselling
- Evidence of training or qualification in living with the sexual consequences of cancer
- Accredited with COSRT
- Accredited EMDR therapist, or working towards accreditation
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of training or qualification in the impact of body image on sexual dysfunction
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in NHS hospital setting with people experiencing a range of psychosexual, sexual health, relationship and psychological difficulties.
- Experience of working therapeutically using short-term, evidence based psychosexual theories and models
- Experience in more than one psychological and/or psychosexual intervention for promoting sexual wellbeing
- Experience in working with risk reduction techniques and principles (eg. motivational interviewing)
- Experience of multi-professional working
- Experience in the use of data management
- Evidence of good communications skills
- Understanding of person-centered care
- Understanding of the health and social care environment
- Experience in coordinating a patient workload
- Experience of counselling/coaching/teaching patients and partners
- Understanding of Macmillan Cancer Support and its role across the UK
- Awareness of improving outcomes: a strategy for Cancer and other National Cancer policies
- Knowledge of relevant cancer treatments, interventions and terminology
Desirable criteria
- Experience in working in NHS (or voluntary) mental health services and/or sexual health services
- Experience of working in an oncology NHS department as a psychosexual therapist
- Experience in providing couples counselling
- Experience of utilising cognitive and behavioural interventions, including third wave approaches, to inform assessment, formulation and intervention
