Job overview
We have a rare and exciting opportunity to join our stroke team as an Advanced Physiotherapist. This role will be primarily based on the hyper-acute stroke unit, however there will be some working on the stroke rehabilitation ward as well. This is a temporary position until 17th May 2026.
The post holder will work alongside Advanced Physiotherapists across the stroke pathway and will be jointly responsible for the provision of high-quality, patient-centred physiotherapy service provision. This opportunity would suit someone who is passionate about working in a hyper-acute stroke setting, has senior clinical experience within speciality, has a detailed understanding of stroke, and experience in supporting this complex patient group along their pathway.
This is a great opportunity to work collaboratively with a highly experienced and skilled team, in order to drive service and staff development and lead on quality improvement.

Main duties of the job
- To be an active member of the physiotherapy team delivering a high standard of physiotherapy care to patients within the speciality
- To be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team within the speciality area
- To be a member of the appropriate clinical interest group as applicable to role
- To work into other specialties if required at times of staff shortage
- To be responsible for own continued professional development and assist CPD of other members of the physiotherapy and multidisciplinary teams

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To provide a high standard of physiotherapy care to a highly complex patient group in specialty
- To provide outpatient physiotherapy support for these patients in clinics and on the day units as applicable to role
- To provide an advisory service to patients, their families, physiotherapists, consultants, nursing staff and other health care professionals in tertiary and secondary care, both locally and regionally
- To develop and provide specialist education and training to nursing, medical and physiotherapy staff and other members of the MDT in order to optimise each patient’s outcome

KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- Highly specialist knowledge of medical conditions relevant to the speciality and their impact on patient’s functional abilities
- Highly specialist knowledge of the physiotherapy process and its application with the client group in the speciality
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of undertaking research projects
- Knowledge of current NHS initiatives e.g. National Service Frameworks, Improving Working Lives
SKILLS
Essential criteria
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to pass on skills and knowledge to others both formally and informally
- Good organisation, time management, problem-solving and prioritisation skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to reflect and critically appraise own practice
Desirable criteria
- IT Skills
- Specialist treatment skills relevant to clinical group
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Extensive post-grad experience including considerable experience as a senior physiotherapist within specialty (Master’s level equivalent)
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of teaching and delivering presentations
Desirable criteria
- Previous Band 7 experience
- Experience of carrying out audit projects
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent Diploma in Physiotherapy
- State Registered with Health and Care Professions Council
- Evidence of CPD and relevant post-graduate courses to MSc level
Desirable criteria
- Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
- Involvement with the relevant CSP Clinical Special Interest Group e.g. APCP
