Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist who is passionate about working with children and young people? Are you looking to work as part of a supportive team in a flexible working environment whilst earning HCAS?
We have a new and exciting opportunity for a band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our team based in East Berkshire on a fixed term contract until end June 2026, covering a maternity leave.
Within this post you will have the opportunity to work as part of an experienced team of therapists in a mix of community settings, educational settings, homes, having independence and autonomy to manage your own caseload.
In your role you will be expected to deliver a high standard of occupational therapy care to children and young people with developmental and complex needs, therefore for this role we are looking for someone with a real passion for seeing children and young people reach their potential.
Our core working hours are Monday to Friday 9:00 – 17:00 but we can offer flexibility around this. The role will involve some travel but also leaves room for some home working. 30 hours per week, flexibility and other part-time options considered.

Provide high quality assessment and interventions for children and young people with developmental / complex needs

Function as a specialist autonomous clinician, supporting delivery of the CYPIT model and providing support to more junior staff and students

Contribute to defined projects and service development initiatives as requested

Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records and provide written therapy plans and reports including contribution to the EHC Assessment process and tribunals as required

Use needs-led, impact-based clinical decision making, and associated outcome measures

Provide specialist clinical care including assessment, diagnosis and intervention

The “must haves” for this role:

Be a qualified Occupational Therapist, with experience in assessing and treating children and young people with developmental and complex needs presentations

Excellent communication skills

Hold a full UK driving license, with access to using a vehicle for work purposes

- Professional Qualification e.g. Professional knowledge acquired through degree/ diploma supplemented by post graduate diploma specialist training, experience, short courses plus further specialist Training
- Able to demonstrate required clinical knowledge of up to date Occupational therapy interventions and service issues relevant to Children and Young Peoples service provision.
- An understanding of the diverse needs of children and young people

Continuous Professional Development

- Recognised CPD in area of clinical specialism

- Experience of supervision and training of other band 5 therapists/students and other professionals
- Willingness to undertake leadership and management training and development
Previous Experience

- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in working with children
- Experience of undertaking assessment of and supporting children with complex presentations.
- Experience of supporting CYP in both community and educational settings.

- Experience with developing and delivering training programmes to support service delivery.
- Experienced and able to demonstrate a commitment to integrated working and close partnership working with internal and external partners.

- Evidence of an understanding of the diverse needs of children and young people
- Able to demonstrate a clinical knowledge and familiarisation with a range of standardised and non-standardised assessment tools relevant to occupational therapy interventions
- Able to use IT to support and innovate clinical development
- Excellent, succinct written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a calm and confident manner in stressful situations
- Ability to work successfully as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge of current professional and statutory issues
- Ability to self-motivate
