Job overview

We are in the exciting position to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated Lead Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) pharmacist. The successful candidate will be expected to support the pharmacy development and ongoing maintenance of ePMA on the Ashford & St Peter’s Hospital site.

The EPMA system is part of the wider Oracle Health electronic patient record (ePR) programme rolled out between both the Royal Surrey NHS FT and Ashford and St. Peters Hospital NHS FT known as Millennium ePR.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be responsible for the management of the Senior EPMA Pharmacy Technician, and will also deputise for the Principal Pharmacist for EPMA as required. They will provide site-specific leadership related to the EPMA system, ensuring an appropriate focus on clinical risk management, quality assurance and medicines optimisation.  

The post holder will also be responsible for site-specific EPMA governance ensuring that quality management systems, policies and standard operating procedures are in place.  They will lead the development of EPMA policies and education and training materials, taking responsibility for writing the clinical elements, supervising the Senior Technician with writing the technical elements and ensuring that all documents are tailored appropriately for the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Lead Pharmacist for the system build and ongoing development of the Oracle Health Electronic Prescribing & Medicines Administration (EPMA) system across Ashford & St Peter’s NHS Foundation Trust (ASPH) and Royal Surrey Foundation NHS Trust (RSFT) .  
 
The Oracle Health EPMA system is part of the wider electronic patient record (ePR) programme.  The post holder will provide highly specialist pharmaceutical knowledge and expertise to lead and support the ongoing maintenance, development and evaluation of the EPMA system and deliver optimisation projects.   Whilst this is a site-specific role at Ashford & St Peter’s Hospital, there will be interconnectivity with the Royal Surrey site. 
 
The post holder will be responsible for the management of the Senior Technician, and will also deputise for the Principal Pharmacist for EPMA as required. Management responsibilities may change as the team grows. They will provide site-specific leadership to ensure that the EPMA system is maintained with an appropriate focus on clinical risk management, quality assurance and medicines optimisation to facilitate the delivery of EPMA and programme objectives.  The post holder will also be responsible for site-specific EPMA governance ensuring that quality management systems, policies and standard operating procedures are in place.  They will lead the development of EPMA policies and education and training materials, taking responsibility for writing the clinical elements, supervising the Senior Technician with writing the technical elements and ensuring that all documents are tailored appropriately for the Trust. 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered with GPhC
  • Degree in Pharmacy (UK recognised)
  • Clinical Pharmacy diploma (or equivalent) or sufficient experience gained in practice to equate to this level of training
Desirable criteria
  • Additional post graduate diploma
  • Member of relevant professional groups

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy
  • Experience in using or implementing an EPMA system
  • Line management experience
  • Experience of delivering projects to time and on budget
  • Demonstrable expertise in highly relevant field of pharmacy specialism
  • Knowledge of medicines safety and managing risk
  • Experience writing policies and standard operating procedures
  • Experience of designing, developing and delivering training programmes
  • Previous good performance working in a range of clinical pharmacy specialties in the acute sector
  • Experience of working successfully with different healthcare professions and managers across the wider healthcare economy
  • Experience of audit and/or research
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in leading a Cerner/Oracle EPMA implementation
  • Experience of IT system development or administration in a relevant area of practice
  • Experience of the leading change
