Senior Sonographer

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work at the Royal Surrey Hospital NHS Foundation Trust radiology team.
The Royal Surrey is a 520 bed district hospital and home to the St Lukes Cancer center which is a tertiary cancer center for Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire cancer networks. The community sites provides GP and Outpatient radiology services to people closer to home. The community hospitals services include radiology, Phlebotomy, echocardiography, podiatry and numerous outpatients’ clinics. Milford Hospital is currently part of a brand new community diagnostic center development.
We are seeking a sonographer to work alongside a friendly, supportive and expanding team. You will be working as part of a highly driven and professional integrated group including radiologists, specialist MSK sonographers, HCA’s and RDA’s. The successful candidate would be based working at the RSCH to include rotational shifts through all community centers.
All sites consist of well-appointed ultrasound rooms ergonomically equipped to include state of the art ultrasound scanners. GE Logic 10 R3 scanners are used throughout radiology and community sites.. CRIS and SECTRA PACS radiology systems are in use. All community sites have an x-ray room with a team on radiographers working alongside.

The post holder is part of a team that provides general ultrasound services to the Trust and Community Sites. They will be responsible for giving clinical support to more junior staff members and may take on the role of lead sonographer when on site. They will support student sonographers and more junior sonographers in career development within the Ultrasound team.
The department undertakes examinations in abdominal, gynecology, pediatric, small parts, head and neck, MSK, some vascular examinations. We contribute to several one-stop clinics ensuring our patients receive a first class service. There is ongoing student training within the department. You would be expected to be able to scan independently abdominal, renal and gynecology and have an additional competency in other areas such as pediatrics/lumps bumps/head and neck or MSK.
Applicants must have the relevant qualifications PgD/MSc in medical ultrasound and HCPC registration and 5 years or more experience post qualification as working in an NHS environment. . They must have experience supervising students and ideally previously had a role as clinical supervisor or some mentoring experience/training. Additional practice or experience in pediatrics would be beneficial. Additional qualifications in leadership would be beneficial but not essential. We are keen to develop individuals and committed to supporting CPD and leadership opportunities. Educational half days are fully utilized for in-house training.

To be responsible for carrying out ultrasound procedures to a high standard and in a professional manner, working to departmental guidelines whilst being accountable for own actions. To be a clinical support to more junior staff. To assist the clinical lead with student preceptorship. To take on some sort of advance practice as per service requirements. To be lead sonographer as required dealing with daily running of the service when at RSCH site. To assist with performance development reviews of more junior staff members and encourage junior staff in career development.
Full time and part-time opportunities will be considered. Please note this is a 7 day working contract and you will be expected to participate in rotational weekend duties.

Qualifications

- Hold an appropriate professional qualification such as BSc Radiography.
- Registered with HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) .
- Minimum of PgD in case accredited Ultrasound course. Must include Abdominal and Gynae Ultrasound.

- MSc in related subject desirable.
- Leadership or mentoring experience/qualifications.
Knowledge

- Preferably 1 year post degree or equivalent qualification, however newly qualified Sonographers will be considered.
