Milton Keynes University Hospital operates across three sites including Community Diagnostic Centres, with a new scanning centre due to open in 2026. With ongoing development in CT, MRI, ultrasound, DEXA, mammography, general x-ray, fluoroscopy and newly installed equipment for both Interventional Radiography and Cath Lab.

Main duties of the job
Your main duties will include performing a high-quality radiography and delivering high standards of patient care. Contribute to effective training newly qualified radiographers, including BSc/MSc students and apprentices. Managing day to day departmental operational logistics, collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team.
- To work within TAG areas located throughout the trust both as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multi-professional team, in a manner that meets profession, departmental and legal standards and requirements.
- To proactively assist in the management of the Imaging department on a daily basis; whilst fostering a safe and efficient environment for patients, staff and visitors. This should include archiving correct patient data to PACS (picture archiving communications systems) and RIS (radiology information systems).
- To supervise and teach radiographers new to TAG, student radiographers and imaging assistants and to actively help, teach and support training specialty doctors in radiology.
- Ensure patient safety is maintained and patient experience is positive by treating patients, relatives and colleagues with respect, dignity and courtesy in accordance with Trust values.
- Ensuring that at all times you act within your sphere of competence.
- When required, participate in TAG research and development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The postholder must hold a BSc (Hons) Radiography, or DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent in Radiography, HCPC registered and have post qualification clinical experience and able to work autonomously.
You will be required to Participate in 24/7 Rostered Shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and on-call duties. Flexibility in your approach to work is essential, with an unwavering commitment to keeping patients at the forefront of their clinical practice.
Clinical:
- Work unsupervised, performing all TAG Imaging departmental protocols
Communication and relationship building:
- To assess specific communication needs of individual patients. To anticipate where communication difficulties might make completion of checklists impossible and implement alternative methods to ensure that patient safety is maintained.
Responsibilities for analysis:
- Able to synthesize referral details through analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of different imaging options.
Responsibilities for planning and organisation of activities:
- Plan and organise workload in line with clinical priorities.
Financial responsibility:
- Assist in the checking and monitoring of stock to maintain adequate levels and inform superintendent of requirements.
Managing people:
- To assist in the supervision and clinical instruction of undergraduate radiographic staff.
Responsibility for information resources:
- Accountable for the management, storage, retrieval, and electronic transmission of image data.
Research and development:
- To take an active role and be the nominated contact person for any research projects as required.
Freedom to act:
- The post holder will work within broad occupational policies, interpret guidelines and ensure all standards are met.

Essential criteria

- Evidence of a sound level of computer literacy (MS Teams, word, outlook, power point and excel)
- Familiarity with hospital information systems (HIS), radiology information systems (RIS) and picture archiving communications systems (PACS)
- Knowledge of a wide range of diagnostic imaging procedures
- Evidence of keeping informed of the current imaging techniques and practices
- Knowledge of relevant national imaging standards (e.g., IR(ME)R 2017, IRR ’17 and associated codes of practice)
