Research Fellow in Respiratory Medicine

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individuals to join our team to provide clinical support for an extensive portfolio of respiratory research within the Trust.  The role and responsibilities will be adjusted according to the candidate’s experience.

 

This 12-month post will commence in August 2025 and is ideally suited to someone interested in a career in respiratory medicine or clinical research in any medical specialty.

 

We seek a proactive and adaptable self-starter who can work effectively within a highly successful multidisciplinary research delivery team. The role provides valuable exposure to the conduct of clinical research in a Trust internationally renowned for its research excellence. The respiratory research portfolio includes investigator-led and commercial clinical trials across a range of respiratory subspecialties—including cystic fibrosis, asthma, COPD, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary infection, bronchiectasis, and lung cancer.

This post provides a unique opportunity to gain in-depth experience in the set-up, management and delivery of clinical trials in respiratory medicine. Working in a collaborative environment with an experienced research team, the Fellow will be trained in all aspects of clinical trial conduct, in accordance with GCP and regulatory standards.

 

The Fellow will contribute to a varied respiratory research portfolio, which includes interventional, observational and translational studies. The role encompasses all stages of trial involvement, from feasibility and set-up through to delivery and data analysis.

 

You will work closely with research nurses, principal and chief investigators, study coordinators, and pharmacists. You will be expected to undertake clinical reviews and safety assessments, provide patient information and informed consent, and liaise with external sponsors and monitors.

Education and Qualifications

  • MBBS or other recognised equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full GMC registration.
  • Satisfactory completion of Foundation Training (or equivalent).

  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Relevant higher degree.
  • ALS.
  • Up-to-date training in Good Clinical Practice.

Clinical Skills and Knowledge

  • Good history & examination skills.
  • Able to formulate a working diagnosis.
  • Able to order appropriate investigations.
  • Image interpretation relevant to practice.
  • Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague.
  • At least 1 year of previous experience working in the NHS.
  • Experience and interest in respiratory medicine.
  • Experience in clinical research at F1/F2/ST1 level.

  • Ability to perform basic general procedures.

Maintaining clinical competence
