Locum Consultant in Gastroenterology

Locum Consultant

Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed colleague to complement and enhance our experienced, ambitious and friendly team of 8 NHS Consultant Gastroenterologists. The post holder will be actively encouraged and given the opportunity to develop subspecialty interests to compliment those of the current team.

This is a 12 month fixed-term maternity leave cover (10.6Pa including on call commitment for GI bleed Rota) for a Consultant Gastroenterologist based at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, which was recently awarded ‘outstanding’ by the CQC.

The Gastro-Hepatology department at Royal Surrey is a forward thinking, ambitious unit, committed to team working for the benefit of patients. The department provides a comprehensive and varied service, beyond what would be expected of a District General Hospital, delivering high quality provision of inpatient and outpatient care, local and regional specialist hepatology services, general gastroenterology services, expert clinical nutritional services, and high quality endoscopy in our JAG-accredited state of the art procedure suite.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to work as a key member of the Gastroenterology team working closely with the established tertiary level specialist teams including oesophago-gastric, HPB and colorectal surgical departments. We have also nurtured close ties with St Luke’s Cancer center with our HCC and NET service delivery roles.

With the opening of a new medical school in the University of Surrey, there will be plenty of opportunities in the near future to develop both teaching and academic links with this established institution.

Working for our organisation

Royal Surrey is a compassionate and collaborative acute and community Trust. Recognising that our 5000 colleagues are our greatest strength, we offer a comprehensive health and wellbeing program along with a commitment to developing and advancing your career. Our diverse and welcoming Royal Surrey family will ensure you that you feel valued from your initial interview through your entire tenure.

We are clinically led and provide joined up care by bridging the gap between hospital and community services alongside regional specialist cancer care. Our main acute hospital site is in Guildford with community hospital sites at Milford, Haslemere and Cranleigh. We provide adult community health services in homes across Guildford and Waverley.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) have given us an overall rating of Outstanding.

Royal Surrey has a strong reputation and history to build on. We are proud of our achievements and we are investing in our colleagues through our commitment to supporting professional development as well as investing more than £45 million in our physical environment and new equipment in the next few years. There has never been a better time to join us.

Although it isn't the Trusts normal practice, adverts may close early, so you are encouraged to submit an application as soon as possible.
