Job overview
The pharmacy department at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for a highly motivated pharmacist keen to develop and deliver education and training across our hospitals.
Great changes are forecast for the pharmacists in the next 5 years, including introduction of pharmacist who are Independent Prescribers from registering as pharmacists. Their development however doesn’t stop there. We are dedicated to ensuring continued educational support for further development across the board.
In addition, we want to provide opportunities in developing research and project skills, teaching and training on clinical and practical skills to enhance a pharmacist's experience whilst working in this department.
As a key member of the education and training team, you will be focused on leading the development and support needs of new qualified pharmacists and work closely with the Non-Medical Prescriber Lead, to implement high standards for clinical pharmacists.
The role also involves supporting post- graduate diploma training, clinical supervision, managing finances for educational requests, supporting audit work and line managing junior staff within the team.
It’s a great chance to build your leadership skills, managing and training people, project management and advancing your communication skills.
Main duties of the job
• Lead education and training for pharmacists across ICHT including those on post graduate diplomas, as well as undergraduate placements.
• Support and enhance, develop clinical practice through education and training.
• Manage staff accountable to post holder.
• Manage the financial and budgetary responsibilities in relation to education and training.
• Provide leadership where necessary for policies, teaching and training.
• Contribute to and support the departments research and quality improvement practice, including audits.

Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Master’s degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
- Registered as a Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Postgraduate diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
- HEE Educational Supervisor programme completion (or working towards) or other equivalent qualification/experience.
Desirable criteria
- Appropriate management short courses
- Registered Independent Prescriber (or working towards)
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
Experience / Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Post qualification experience of working in a UK hospital; this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy.
- Experience of assessing clinical risk and clinical governance
- Experience of setting objectives and managing performance
- Experience of writing policies and SOPs.
Desirable criteria
- Practical experience with an electronic in-patient prescribing system (Cerner)
- Experience of training of nursing and/or medical staff
- Experience of using Quality Improvement tools in practical environment
Skills/ abilities
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate with all staff and patients at all levels.
- Ability to justify any advice given with supporting literature- evidence, should this be challenged.
- Ability to plan and organise a broad range of training and development activities.
- Ability to contribute to business plans, policies and clinical protocols.
