We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team.
The candidate will be expected to work in the clinical biochemistry team supporting clinical leaders within a variety of specialist laboratory sections. The role will include working in both the lipid and adult inherited metabolic disorders clinic and providing support for laboratory diagnostic services for Trust inpatient, outpatient, primary care and community care services and for clinical teams based at both Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital. Candidates must be on the Full General Medical Council register with a licence to practice and possess FRCPath part 2. Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience of working in both lipid and adult inherited metabolic disorders clinics.
This post is to commence as soon as possible for a period of 24 months. This post is basic hours only, no on-call.

Clinical:
· To participate in the Adult Inherited Metabolic Disorders outpatient service and to support provision of an advice service regionally for adults of this service admitted to hospital.
· To participate in the lipid outpatient clinic
· To provide support for the diagnosis and management of biochemical clinical problems, advise on appropriate investigations on an individual patient basis and participate in the duty biochemist rota for general validation of results and advice.
· You will be expected to participate in all aspects of clinical governance and contribute to multidisciplinary audit and risk management activities and actively participate in clinical liaison and audit.
Administrative:
· The post holder will undertake Continued Professional Development in accordance with the guidelines stipulated by the Royal College of Pathologists
· You will be responsible for the undertaking of administrative duties associated with the care of patients under the supervision of a consultant
· You will be expected to take on a roles in management suitable to your level of experience
Research:
· The post holder will be expected to facilitate translational research particularly that which encompasses their area of clinical practice, but also with regard to the specialist biochemical investigations that are available within the NHS Clinical Biochemistry Service
· There may be opportunities to become involved in clinical research to support the consultants in the team who are principle/sub investigators for a variety of clinical trials.
Teaching:
· The post holder will be expected to take part in under graduate and post graduate teaching activities for medical students and resident doctors and students within other disciplines if appropriate
· The post holder will have an active involvement in the teaching of biomedical scientists/clinical scientists and speciality registrars
Flexibility:
In line with the Trust’s core value of placing patients at the heart of everything we do, we are developing our service provision to be responsive to the needs of our patients. To meet those needs some staff groups will be increasingly asked to work a more flexible work pattern so that they can offer services in the evening or weekend. As a result any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern or working in the future if required, including evening and weekend work.
