Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria

Registered General Nurse (NMC)
Advanced or Intermediate Life Support provider
Evidence of accredited post registration level 6 education development in relevant subject (Physical assessment/ clinical reasoning )
Evidence of Independent prescribing qualification (or working towards)
Master’s Degree of /in Advanced Practice (or working towards)

Desirable criteria

Relevant Post basic course
Teaching qualification
Leadership Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

Recent & Significant post registration nursing experience of caring for patients with cardiac disease.
Excellent Understanding and experience in recognition of cardiac emergencies.
Familiar with national guidelines for CHD content and relevant NICE guidelines
Experience of the treating cardiac patient.

Desirable criteria

Database management
Presentation skills
Report writing

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria

Evidence of developing relevant clinical expertise
Evidence of effective interpersonal skills and ability to liaise with MDT teams
Computer Literacy (eg Microsopft word, outlook )
Venepuncture and Cannulation

Remote developmental histories and child observations (via video calls)
Peer MDT diagnostic decision-making, with the support of the senior clinical MDT where required
Tech-enabled outcome report writing
Outcome calls with parents and families (via video call)

As a Senior Assessor, you have the opportunity to focus on delivering direct care. Furthermore, if you have the relevant experience and skills, you can take on an additional responsibility. We limit this to one responsibility to allow for focused time on that topic, rather than having your time stretched too thinly. When taking on an additional responsibility, your case volume is reduced, making time available for this focused time.

For Senior Assessors, additional responsibility options include supporting more complex cases, ensuring quality assurance, providing training, facilitating family engagement, and contributing to pathway development.
