Join our dynamic team as Chief Pharmacy Technician – Clinical Trials, Aseptics & ATMPs, where you will lead the technical delivery of our cutting-edge research services, working with a wide network of partners including Sponsors, CROs, Imperial College, and NHS research teams.
In this senior role, you will manage and develop our technical and support staff, drive service improvements, and ensure compliance with GMP, GCP, and UK regulatory standards. You will oversee the set-up and delivery of clinical trials within our aseptic units and stem cell/ATMP facilities, supporting the safe, effective, and innovative care of our patients and research participants.

Main duties of the job
Lead, develop and deliver the technical elements of the pharmacy clinical trials service across the Trust, in collaboration with the Chief Pharmacy Technician, Clinical Trials Dispensary & Sponsored Studies and the Head of Pharmacy Clinical Trials & ATMPs.
Develop specialist technical services for the conduct of clinical trials involving injectables and ATMPs in line with national and regulatory requirements and best practice, working with the Aseptic Unit, QA, stem cell lab and other advanced therapy services. Help to set a patient-centred strategic direction for the technical elements of the Pharmacy Clinical Trials and ATMP service.
Support the Chief Pharmacy Technician, Clinical Trials Dispensary & Sponsored Studies in advising R&D and the Sponsor Pharmacist on Imperial-sponsored trials (Trust and College) of clinical trials involving Aseptics and ATMPs. Work to ensure that drug delivery in these clinical trials is designed and manufactured/ compounded effectively and efficiently to the highest standards, in line with national and regulatory requirements and best practice, to benefit our patients and science.
Lead, manage and develop technical and support staff within the clinical trials team. Act as a role model and educator, providing leadership, training, advice and support to the clinical trials, aseptic unit and QA teams in the area of clinical trials focusing on Aseptics and ATMPs.

Education/ Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Technician Registrant of General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Specialist post-qualification knowledge and experience of GMP and GCP with the ability to demonstrate this within a practical setting operating at least at a Band 6 level (or equivalent) over a substantial period of time.
Desirable criteria
- Management or leadership qualifications/equivalent experience
- Aseptics or ATMP qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in the set up and management of commercial and non-commercial clinical trials
- Substantial post qualification experience in hospital pharmacy clinical trials and practical experience of managing staff, resources and additional knowledge to post-graduate diploma or equivalent level

- Risk assessments, risk management and QA systems
Desirable criteria
- Substantial post qualification experience in all areas of hospital pharmacy, including dispensary and aseptics

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of current UK medicines legislation in relation to clinical trials and medicines
- Experience of managing change and able to identify opportunities for improvement and development of the service
- Specialist technical knowledge of specific areas within pharmacy (dispensary, cancer, clinical trials) that demonstrates ability to manage a complex service.
- Demonstrated excellent analytical, verbal, numeric and written communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
