Job overview

We are seeking to recruit an innovative, dynamic speciality doctor to join our team. This is a permanent post for 10 PA post.

Successful appointee will join the Head & Neck directorate of ENT, Oral Surgery & Ophthalmology. You will be joining a friendly and welcoming team of 6 consultants, 7 speciality doctors and a wider multi-disciplinary team of 30 clinical staff. Services are delivered across all West Herts sites including Watford General and St Albans City Hospitals.

With a new hospital planned for Watford and work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital, this is an exciting time to join us.

Main duties of the job

This is an appointment by West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (WHTH). The post involves cross-site working, with opportunities to join the wider team for educational and training purposes.

The indicative job plan is in the job description attached.

Job plans may be reviewed as service needs alter. The Trust has long day working and may consider weekend working in the future.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Prospective candidates will need to meet the following essential criteria:

MBBS or basic medical degree

Full GMC Registration with a license to practice

Education and qualifications:

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or Basic Medical Degree
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
Desirable criteria
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Ophthalmology
  • MRCOphth / FRCOphth or equivalent qualification

Knowledge:

Essential criteria
  • A number of years full time post graduate training (or equivalent on a part-time or flexible basis), at some of which will be in Ophthalmology
  • Wide clinical experience in general ophthalmology
  • Experience in dealing with large numbers of outpatients.
  • Understanding of the role of Clinical Audit within a service
  • Research and evidence-based practice
Desirable criteria
  • Operating skills
  • Experience / interest in teaching
  • Teaching skill courses
  • Relevant experience in undertaking and organising Audit
  • Research and publications relevant to post
  • Undertaken relevant courses
  • Specialist interest in Oculoplastics preferred

Experience:

Essential criteria
  • Wide clinical experience in general ophthalmology
  • Ability to organise and prioritise work effectively
  • Able to plan and develop the service
  • • Experience in working in and leading a multi-disciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives
