Gynaecology TWR Navigator – Band 5
We are seeking a highly organised and compassionate individual to join our team as a Gynaecology TWR Navigator. This vital role supports patients referred under the 28 Day FDS standard, ensuring timely and efficient coordination of their care.
You will act as the central point of contact for patients and clinicians, facilitating appointments, investigations, and timely communication. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and experience in a healthcare setting are essential.
Essential criteria:
- Significant understanding of the TWR/28 Day FDS pathway and National Cancer Targets as well as other internal departments such as Cancer Services and Radiology etc.
- Ability to work well under pressure and hit KPI’s
- Commitment and focus on quality and providing excellent patient care
- Confident using Cerner (and experience using Somerset is desirable)
- Ability to work as part of a MDT Team
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and kindness

Main duties of the job
To cover administrative and secretarial responsibilities for the department with a main focus on ensuring effective co-ordination of the TWR cancer pathway for the Gynaecology department. Ensuring cancer pathways are tracked and consistently achieving national and trust guidelines and raising concerns and breaches with the speciality management team where appropriate. Keeping a flexible approach to workload at all times and prioritising duties accordingly, ensuring efficient patient care is at the forefront of all decisions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide a full range of medical secretarial assistance to consultants, with the TWR consultants, and their team. Manage own workload, demonstrate efficient organisation and oversee the smooth effective operation of the office and managing the TWR pathways. To work autonomously within a team, providing full organisational support to the consultant’s practice and their team. To ensure procedures and working practices are in place so that the speciality and Trust can deliver a service that meets the standards and targets that have been set, including the national FDS targets. To provide a considerate, patient focussed service in all dealings with patients and with staff around the hospital and throughout the whole system.

Essential criteria
- Good general standard of education to GCSE level or equivalent including English
- RSA II or equivalent in word processing/audio typing RSA III, Medical secretarial qualification (BSMS Certificate) or equivalent
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Working knowledge of a range of software packages e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint, and locally used data bases e.g. Telepath and SweetP (*)
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent telephone manner and ability to handle emotive and difficult conversations
- Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology
- Broad knowledge of medical terminology
- Detailed knowledge of patient pathways and advanced medical terminology in own area of work (*) including cancer medical terminology
- Knowledge of NHS priorities and understanding of the guidelines and targets in own area of work (*) specifically, TWR and FDS Standards but also working alongside other departments including Cancer Services, Radiology etc
- Excellent spelling and grammar
- Experience of working in busy environment
- Experience of dealing with the general public
- Experience in a medical environment as a medical secretary.
- Experience of mentoring, training or supervising others
- Awareness and understanding of NHS issues
- Experience in using patient administration systems
- Experience of working in a large complex organisation and a multidisciplinary environment
- Degree or equivalent (evidence of further education e.g. diploma)
