Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To support and enhance the professional psychological care of patients
Providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist
To assist in clinical related administration, conduct of audits, data quality work, teaching and project work
This post involves working independently according to a work plan agreed with line manager and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures

Person specification

TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria

Single honours degree (upper second class or higher) in psychology

Desirable criteria

Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria

Paid or voluntary experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist or alongside a Clinical Psychologist
Computer literate with experience of using Microsoft Office and statistical packages for data analysis
Experience of conducting literature searches and reviews

Desirable criteria

Experience of working with patient groups with psychological difficulties
Experience of working with groups

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Essential criteria

Knowledge of developmental processes from childhood to old age
Understanding the needs of individuals with psychological difficulties
An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge and skills to a healthcare setting
Understanding of issues relating to confidentiality
High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive

Desirable criteria

An understanding of the psychological needs of patients
Presentation skills
High level report writing

PERSONAL

Essential criteria

Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals
An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines

As a Senior Assessor, you have the opportunity to focus on delivering direct care. Furthermore, if you have the relevant experience and skills, you can take on an additional responsibility. We limit this to one responsibility to allow for focused time on that topic, rather than having your time stretched too thinly. When taking on an additional responsibility, your case volume is reduced, making time available for this focused time.

For Senior Assessors, additional responsibility options include supporting more complex cases, ensuring quality assurance, providing training, facilitating family engagement, and contributing to pathway development.

ADOS Autism Assessor for Children and Young People, based in our Exeter clinic

Time commitment: Full-time employment is preferred, though we can also offer part-time (minimum of 3 days per week) or a self-employed role (again a minimum of 3 days per week).
