Job overview

We have an exciting 12 month fixed term opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic Assistant Practitioner to join a friendly and forward thinking Outpatient Physiotherapy department. 

This post is part time, 26 hours per week, and is based at our Jacketts Field, Abbots Langley site. 

You will be working in a busy, friendly Outpatient Physiotherapy Department, where you will be supported by a Band 7/6 qualified Physiotherapist through a well-established supervision process. 

Robust training support will be provided. We also offer in-service training opportunities and your existing experience will be further developed in both 1:1 and class/group based clinical activities. 

Previous NHS experience is essential.

Interviews will take place, face to face, at the West Hertfordshire Therapy Unit, Outpatient Physiotherapy Department, Jacketts Field Site, Abbots Langley on the 24th September 2025. 

 

Main duties of the job

You will be assessing, treating, progressing and discharging routine MSK patients – trauma and elective post-operative orthopaedic presentations.

You will be running group exercise sessions – for example TKR classes and lower limb classes.

You will also help support our qualified staff in joint treatment sessions, as and when appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To treat own caseload of patients in the MSK Outpatient Physiotherapy setting; according to set treatment protocols, monitor progression, and make alterations to patients treatment programmes as and when required.

To use clinical reasoning to utilise a range of assessment and treatment skills to formulate treatment programmes.

To work unsupervised regularly and report back progress or change from expected findings to a qualified physiotherapist. 

Person specification

Education and qualifications:

Essential criteria
  • Good general education up to GSCE or equivalent.
  • NVQ level III in health-related subject or equivalent qualification.
  • No HCPC required.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of recent study in field of health care and/or rehabilitation.

Knowledge:

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the therapy assistant role within rehab and discharge planning.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of local services for onward referral.

Experience:

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience as a therapy or nursing assistant in the NHS.
  • Experience of managing and prioritising own caseload.
  • NHS experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of outcome measures and common rehab techniques.
