Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team Specialist Physiotherapist  Band 6 - Community and Wellbeing Network

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Physiotherapist with advanced clinical skills to be part of the established Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team (CNRT) in Central Lancashire. 

The Community Neurological Rehab Team provides ongoing rehabilitation to patients within the Chorley, South Ribble and Greater Preston locality with predominantly Stroke and ABI diagnosis. Referrals to the team are predominantly from the acute hospital, in-patient setting, however referrals from the third sector are also accepted.

 The team has an active involvement with the Lancashire & South Cumbria Integrated Stroke and Neuro Rehabilitation Delivery Network and is currently working towards the implementation of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Stroke Service Specification.

The CNRT is a large multidisciplinary team, lead by three dynamic Band 7 Clinical Specialists in Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy and consists of these disciplines along with Neuropsychology and highly experienced generic rehabilitation assistants.  We are proactive, open to new ideas and innovative in neuro rehabilitation practice.  

We provide therapy in several environments including clinics, patients’ homes and other community settings.

Main duties of the job

We are a large, supportive, friendly team that values interdisciplinary working, striving to provide excellence.  Current treatment approaches offered by our team include FES and Saeboflex. We are committed to providing an enhanced, evidence based, interdisciplinary approach to patient care. Patient centred, functional goals are embedded within team practice and shape and inform the delivery of therapy. 

The post holder must have had recent previous experience working within the NHS and within the clinical field of Stroke and/or Brain Injury.

We are looking for a versatile, innovative individual with a commitment to working within an interdisciplinary environment.

You will be offered regular supervision by a highly experienced therapist to support you to develop and expand on your existing skills and knowledge.

 You will be responsible for the assessment, treatment planning and management of rehabilitation programmes for a wide variety of clinical presentations and will be responsible for delegation to generic rehabilitation assistants and support them in the delivery of this rehabilitation.  

You will have autonomy in managing your caseload and diary.  You will be offered regular in-service training as well as support for internal and external development within the field of Neurological Rehabilitation and leadership. 

You will develop close partnership working with in-patient colleagues and other professionals.

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent
  • Current professional registration with HCPC as a speech therapist and responsibility for maintaining this registration
  • Post graduate qualification in specialist field

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of clinical governance framework and implications for practice including audit and research governance
  • In-depth understanding of current NHS/government policy/Public Health/NICE guidelines on organisational change and the ability to adapt these appropriately to local service needs through publication of documents
  • Knowledge and appreciation of lone working risks – policy and procedure
