Wellbeing Cancer Dietitian 

Department: Cancer Services

Band 7 £47,810 - £54,710 per annum pro rata

Part-time 15 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Dietitian with highly developed interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills to join our friendly Wellbeing Cancer team at MKUH. You will job share with a 0.6 WTE Wellbeing Cancer Dietitian and work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team including a Physiotherapist, Psychologist, Consultants and Specialist Nurses, whilst maintaining strong skills with the Dietetic department. The service is supported by a forward thinking and supportive Management Team, Palliative Care Team and Nurse Practitioners. Administrative support is provided by the Wellbeing Team Coordinator. 

If you are reliable, hardworking, flexible, self-motivated and can demonstrate excellent communication skills, then this position could well be right for you.

  • To provide a Nutrition and Dietetic Service, for cancer patients, working across both outpatient and inpatient settings. You would work as part of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to provide a highly specialised nutrition service to service to service users with a variety of tumour types at MKUH in accordance with local and national guidelines.
  • To take a lead role in the nutritional management of patients referred to the Cancer Services.
  • To take a major role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality who may have a highly complex presentation.
  • To determine dietetic treatment indicated for patients within the speciality.
  • To act as a source of knowledge and skill in the field of dietetics for Cancer patients and their families and carers. 
  • To act as clinical resource to other dietitians and health and social care professionals that are working with cancer patients that have a complex presentation.

You will provide tailored dietary advice and monitoring to patients at the point of diagnosis and along their cancer pathway to help to optimise nutritional status through and enteral nutrition. Applicants must have appropriate knowledge and clinical experience in cancer care. This post will include the delivery of specialist clinics, cover for an inpatient ward and chemotherapy suite and the ongoing development of multidisciplinary group education sessions. You will manage a varied caseload of patients, recognise the needs of patients and deliver a holistic and patient-centred service for those living with and beyond cancer.  

Many learning and development opportunities will be available to you. You will be innovative and participate in service improvement through audit and peer review measures. We firmly believe in holistic care and we have strong links with Milton Keynes Patient Partnership group who work alongside us to help improve services. 

The onsite cancer centre offers streamlined cancer services with the recent addition of an Oxford University Hospital onsite radiotherapy service. 

Clinical: 

  • To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with a highly complex presentation/multi-pathologies; use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition.

Professional: 

  • To maintain own continuing professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments, and incorporate them as necessary into your work.

Organisational:

  • To be responsible for the supervision and coordination of junior staff, students and assistants as required.
