Job overview
Are you a qualified Speech & Language Therapist or a Speech & Language Therapy student, shortly about to qualify, wanting to use your skills to work with children, young people and their families?
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated qualified/qualifying Speech & Language Therapist to join our expanding, experienced and friendly Greater Preston based team. Experience of working with children is desirable but we will also consider those qualifying in the very near future.
Main duties of the job
We work with children and young people aged 0-19 with well-developed and evidenced based pathways to assess, provide specialist advice and therapy. We offer robust clinical and management supervision, specialist support by experienced senior staff and continuing professional development through specialist speech & language therapy forums. The Children’s Therapies Service has a strong network of Clinical Leads and a focus on clinically led services.
The Children’s Therapy team comprises of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists supported by assistants. We work closely with colleagues in health, education and social care to provide a genuinely child-centred service. We work in a variety of locations, including clinics, nurseries/schools and special schools.
The successful candidate must be able to effectively manage their own time and demonstrate excellent communication skills. An interest in working with children and their families is essential.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Professional Degree or equivalent in Speech & Language Therapy
- Current Professional Registration with HCPC
- Evidence of continued professional development
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of clinical governance framework & implications for practice, including audit and research governance
- Knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools for children with diverse needs.
- Knowledge of a range of therapy techniques and programmes for children with diverse needs/ related to client group
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of recent and relevant post graduate experience encompassing the specialist field of practice. that demonstrates an in depth knowledge of specialist area
- Multi-disciplinary/multi-agency collaborative working
- Experience of working with children with complex needs and their families in community/non clinical setting
Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
- Able to work independently as lead specialist.
- Ability to manage children with challenging behaviours
